Hi everyone,

I have a gorgeous 15 week old cockapoo puppy. She has settled in really well so far. We've been socialising her a great deal since we got her and she is quite confident. The one big thing she is doing all the time is barking at unknown children on the street. She has met lots of children and although she is a little bit apprehensive for the first few seconds, as soon as they stroke her, she is fine. However when I take her for walkies, if she sees unknown children, 9 times out of 10 she will bark at them.

I'm not sure how to deal with it. I want to nip it in the bud now but so far, the things I've been trying (telling her no firmly, trying to distract her with a treat) haven't worked. I bumped into another dog walker today who suggested a dog anti-bark spray.

Any suggestions would be most welcome! Thanks

Since writing about our insurance renewal yesterday Obi has had a meningitis relapse. I knew it was a possibility but was so optimistic as he has been so lively and active recently. It all happened so first, just like the first time.

Yesterday morning he was absolutely fine, running around like mad with a bunch of dogs in the park and having a great time. In the afternoon when I came back from the school run I noticed he was very subdued and not moving around much. By tea time he wouldn't eat/drink unless I lifted the bowls up for him and then I noticed he was struggling going down steps on to the lawn. I immediately started to suspect a relapse as these are signs he first showed last time, pain in the neck and back :( I spoke to the Emergency vet and she advised me to give him 10mg of the steroids he had been on (luckily i had some left over). He perked up a little after 4-5 hours. This morning he had bloods done and the results are back and the relapse is confirmed. He's now back on steroids for the next 2-3months. The only comfort I can take in all this is how quickly he has responded to the steroids. He's just had another 10mg dose at tea time and he's really picking up now. The response is quite amazing to witness. Naturally I'm devastated but trying to remain optimistic.

So, We had to have Lady at the Vet's this morning. She had been licking her bum alot. but just the last two days. We were afraid that she had worms, we tried to clean out her anal glands....but not too much came out...so we had her at the vets first thing this morning because with how much she was licking she didn't sleep last night...we had even put a baby onesie on her, and she was licking right through it.

so off to the vets....her anal glands were SO packed....well just the left one, that the HERE IS THE NASTY PART IF YOU HAVE A WEAK STOMACH STOP READING! the consistency of what came out of her was like tooth paste, brown and disgusting, and then a little bit of blood too. my poor girl. she now had to have her bum shaved, she was all cleaned out by the vet, given anti-inflammatory via a needle, she has been given more pain killers/anti-inflammatorys, and we also have to have her on antibiotics for the next few weeks.....goodness my poor dog...she doesn't get a break when it comes to bum issues.

Hi All,

I was just wondering how many of you allow your poo's on the sofa? I have 2 Eric and Pearl and they have been trained to a certain extent and will always ask to come up and sit on the sofa,,, they do this by sitting in front of it and putting their paw on the sofa. If I say no,,, they wonder off and fall asleep else where. If I tap the sofawith my hand they know they are allowed to jump up for a cuddle.

The reason I ask is because they both attend a dog creche which is owned by a trainer who recently commented on my 2 jumping up on things and frowned upon me letting them on the sofa. I found it a little condesending to be honest,,, but she seems to think that now they are allowed on the sofa their behaviour will spiral out of control.

What are your thoughts on this??

Thanks
Sara

Hi everyone, we found a tick on teddy... His first and took him to vets and they took it out. We have kept an eye on it as its on the top of his head... Ive now noticed that teddy wont let me touch where it was and now there is a big lump on his head and a bit flaky. There is no redness and he does seem fine in himself but I am a bit worried. Since the vet took it out we have had other ticks which ive been able to remove with the tick twister successfully but was just after some advice if this is normal or I should take him to the vets. Thank u xx
