At lunchtime today Puzzle and I are off to his first ever puppy party! To say I was nervous would be an understatement! Puzzle has now met plenty of other dogs on our walks but none yet to actually play with. When we took him for his first walk last weekend he play bowed at nearly every dog we met but no takers bless him.

What can we expect from a puppy party? Ease my fears a little.

Madness?
It depends a little on how it is run. The worst can become something of a free for all with shy puppies hiding under chairs and thug puppies being overly boisterous with much smaller and more timid pups. And then there are those which are irrepressible and zoom around bouncing on and off everything and everyone... poos often fit in this last category.
The best puppy parties are much more controlled with plenty of treats and calmness while everyone gets used to each other and owners share tales of failed house training, sleepless nights and destructiveness and you get to look smug - because after all Puzzle is perfect ;)
Let us know how you get on.

We never went to a puppy party, but puppy school had a couple of sessions of free play and it was bedlam. Before we could finally let him off leash Rufus had so much pent up energy he was flipping around on the end of his lead like a trout. Then it was "game on" and Rufus and a few other thugs would mess it up in the middle like whirling dervishes or tasmanian devils, sending people and puppies alike running for cover.

It was actually really well organised and relatively calm! There were about 10 puppies and about 20 people so I was worried at first that it would be a bit crazy. To start with we all had to walk round in a circle on lead and then one at a time she was telling us to take the puppies off lead so they could interact.

She had lots of balls for them to play with and kept hiding treats in the balls for them to find. Puzzle decided that he wanted to say hello to all the people but not so much the other dogs. Once he had done a circuit of the room he just lay down under my chair and watched. He did make one little friend though, another Cockapoo. They both laid down together and licked noses.

He is fast asleep now. Totally exhausted by the whole event. I will take him again though.

My two always love other cockapoos best, then poodle mixes, then cocker spaniels. I also find if I'm walking around at the dog park, my two are more likely to interact with other dogs. Beware once Puzzle gets comfortable. You will have crazy zoomy puppy that all the other dogs will watch and think what a nut.
