I have today bought some Orijen as a change from NI as I love it but it is a hassle ordering it/ room in freezer/ carrying it around
Is it okay to feed alternate Orijen say for breakfast and NI for dinner?
Will it upset her tummy?
She loves the fish Orijen btw and they sell it at the end of my road
Thankyou:)

I feed Coco NI twice a day and Barking heads twice a day, she is thriving, she loves both equally, and best of all she has regular solid non smelly poo's.

I know orijen is richer in meat content than Barking heads, but seeing as the NI is almost 100% meat content I can't see why it would not work together. There was a good post on the diet page by stephen I think about this subject feeding raw and kibble together.

Thanks Karen I saw the barking heads in the shop too but plumped for the Orijen purely cos everyone on here seems to love it. Do you feed your dog 4 times a day? I only fed Pushca 300g max of NI now intend to give one 150g meal of each twice per day. Hope that's enough:confused:

Origen gives my dogs the runs unfortunately which is annoying as they love it. The ones I have managed to combine successfully with NI without upsetting their tummies are fish4dogs, K9 , nature diet and Lilies Kitchen.

Yes - we have found that several puppies find Origen a little too rich and can lead to runny bums ! (though not all ! and it is a handy kibble for people to at least try as it is most certainly high-end quality food).
Natural Instinct (NI) is a very good food but we do tend to find puppies go off it after a while - we think it is down to the "baby-food" consistency.
I did stop and visit the Barking Heads' stand at All About Dogs last month but noted that they still have a cereal content in it which is not for us as it tends to be used as a bulking agent more than for it's nutritional value.
We here at JD do the BARF (several threads on here and on the CCGB) - this is whole raw chicken carcass every day with a steamed veg-mix every couple of weeks or so.

We actually mince carcasses for the puppies for weaning and have been mixing this mince with Fish4Dogs puppy kibble for over a year without any issue for the weaning puppies. This was done so that we were getting the best food into them and it also gave new owners the option to keep on BARF or move to dry kibble (Fish4Dogs) when they took their puppies home. We have also found that this gives a texture to the mince (as with NI it can be a bit "baby-food"ish) adding the dry kibble (that only has a small amount to potato starch in it) certainly worked for us - not one upset tummy to date.

More and more people are getting into the BARF side of feeding - and if you wanted to add something to the NI then I'd suggest adding a chicken wing in with it (gives the puppies something to get their teeth into). If you wanted no hassle quality food then I'd personally recommend Fish4Dogs without hesitation.

Benson is a JD pup and he started on the NI and fish4dogs but went off the NI so I left it out for a few weeks and just gave him the kibble with some shredded cooked chicken or scrambled an egg occasionally to mix in, this week I got some NI out freezer it try and use it up and he is wolfing it down, so will use it till he goes off it again, he does like the fish4dogs though!! His tummy seems fine with this mix and his poo is firm and easy to pick up and dispose of.!!!

Origen can be rich for some dogs. Applaws also do a dried food which is 75% chicken. Both are excellent feed. Barking heads does have cereal content but it is a higher quality grain or potato, rather than the cheap bulking indigestible grain like barley used for brewing and similar low quality cereal.

I spoke to a Orijen rep yesterday at a trade show and mentioned about it being too rich for some dogs. She agreed that they had recieved similar feedback before and advised trying those dogs on Acana which is the sister product to Orijen but contains slightly less meat so causes less tummy upset.

Oh, and NI were there polishing their Pet industry award for 'Pet specialist service of the year' for the second year running!!
