So our 11 week old puppy Wilf arrived on Monday. He's as calm as the breeder said he was, settled in really well, had 3 wee accidents so far, has slept in his crate each night without a murmer, been vet checked, ate well etc. However, if anyone can give me some tips on the following I'd be very grateful.

On our walks he's stopping to pick up virtually every stone/twig/branch etc to try to eat them. He's also tried to eat his own poo. Apart from teaching the leave command can we do anything else? He's already mastered sit and down really well.

We introduced him to my mum's spaniel yesterday as my mum is going to dog sit him 3 days a week when we are at work, my mum's spaniel was very unhappy, growling, snapping, baring teeth. Any tips on how we can make this work?

We want to get him used to spending some time alone (we are off for a fortnight now with him), should we do this in little burst and leave him in the dining room with the crate door open or shut?

Thanks in advance.

What a lovely photo, congratulations.

It was only when I got my puppy that I realised a lot of dogs can be unsure of puppies. I often think it is because a puppy can be very lively. I would get them to meet each time on neutral territory and give lots of praise and extra special treats to the older dog when he is calm. I hope this helps but I'm sure more experienced owners on here will be able to help more.

Wilf is absolutely gorgeous! I have a huge soft spot for blue roans and he looks very similar to Dexter.
He sounds like he is starting off very well. I was permanently taking things out of the mouths of my two when they were little its just their way of exploring their world, he will stop soon.
As for your mum's spaniel, older dogs often get irritated with puppies and its just their way of setting the boundaries for them. Make sure the spaniel knows he is king pin- feed him first, greet him first give him priority over everything and he will soon learn young Wilf is not a threat but a fun playmate.
As for being alone (and mine still follow me round the house) put him in his crate for short periods after a good walk when he is tired so he gets into a routine.
Good luck and have fun with your gorgeous pup!

Awwww he's so cute!! Love the name Wilf!! Jasper used to constantly pick leaves, stones, snails, slugs etc up out of the garden. I was constantly wrestling them out of his mouth but he doesnt bother so much now at 8 months. Hoping he's out grown the urge, lol :) x

Fabulous name and colour choice :):)..... We"ve had Wilf for .... Let me check my pitta pata ...5yeara 41/2 months. He's a gorgeous looking boy, he sounds to be doing well, great advice above. It can be hectic to start with, loads of new experiences for you all, but it will settle down in time for you and your buddy xx

We let him off the lead yesterday and today and he was an angel, trotted happily beside one of us and interacted with all the other dog walkers really well.

Just need to stop him peeing on our rug now, there's no signs he's about to go and he can do it just 10 minutes after we've been outside with him .

Met lots of other cockapoos on our walk today, all so different. As puppies were your dogs very lively? Wilf seems really laid back, just wondering if he's lulling us into a false sense of security. He's 12 weeks tomorrow.

Our Wilf on his first few ventures was a little tentative of other dogs and just watched but soon wanted to play and presumed that all dogs would, he wanted us to play with him in an evening. Mable on the other hand was so used to p,saying with Wilf we didn't have to entertain her cos he did but she then was more submissive when out with other dogs and didnt initiate as much other doggie play as he did cos she already had someone to play with.
You'll get there with the toileting don't worry, you'll suddenly realise that timings are getting longer and accidents fewer. Is it worth moving your rug if you think that's were he's weeing, just until he's a little older... It's worth a shot x

Wilf looks a lovely pup, such a lovely colour. Eddie used to eat everything but now at 1 he doesn't bother anymore. When we came back from a walk he always had to carry something back with him, sticks etc x x
