I was amazed the trainer was really good. The hat had an elastic that went under the face. He used a treat to put it on and then he had this sqeaker thing to keep their attention for the picture. Not one dog tried to take the hat off normally Molly would of pawed it off but today she didn't. She was the older puppy in the class but the younger ones didn't try to take it off either. We were impressed!:) Amazing what you can do with a treat ha!

yes, I plan on using treats for training. I find the very soft ones work best as they can be broken into smaller bits if needed. I'm a firm believer in lure training. I've been looking at videos on clicker training. Not sure I need to go that far though. I just want a well behaved dog that will sit/stay when I need him too.

Clicker training is great. That is how I started training her before puppy class and it worked great. I bought this book called Clicking with your dog by Peggy Tillman. It's a great book and it helped us a lot.

In puppy class there was no clicker so we learned how to train without it which is nice too. At first you use lots of treats and then wean them off. Now I give her a treat one time then do the same thing no treat then a treat so she never knows if she is going to get one so she works it!

I love training her it's fun! Frustrating sometimes but when she gets it it makes me so happy and she seems happy to learn!

I will continue to look into it then. I live in a very small town, so I doubt any of the trainers here use clicker training either, but I'm sure that will be fine as it was for you and Molly. Thanks. Keeping myself busy until I can pick up my pup is going to be fun. I also need to work on changing my cats feeding schedule, they are used to having food out all the time, but with a dog that will have to change. wish me luck lol

Well done to Molly and love the hat! She looks quite comfortable in it! It reminds me of when my daughter bought Dexter and Bonnie Halloween costumes- Dexter was furious with his devils ears and Bonnie loved showing off her Halloween tutu!

I am sure you and your puppy will do fine. I bet you can't wait! One of my friends has a dog and 2 cats so she puts the cat food on her window sill that way the dog can't reach it. Her dog he is a pug gets along great with the cats and he was 4 years old when she got them. He's pretty mellow though:)

Molly met her cats but she didn't really seem to know what they were. I was holding her and put her close to the cat and she just stared at it:)

I have four cats, all over 4 years old. It will be interesting introducing a puppy lol
One of my biggest worries is the litter box, I am doing all sorts of mental rearranging to try and figure out how to keep the dog away from the boxes. If there is one thing I can not stand it is a dog eating cat poop. Disgusting!

ewww Ringo cannot eat cat poop ick!
and then want to be all licking up on me!? I don't Think so! LOL
I have a little unfinished mud room off my kitchen, it does not have a door, so is open to the outside right now, but I'm thinking I can have some renovations done, get it finished, get a door put on it, take out the kitchen door and put a baby gate across, put the litter boxes there. Should work out.
