Bess goes in for her spay tomorrow morning and I'm sure she'll be fine.
It will be difficult to keep her from jumping up and running around the garden at 100 mph but I'm sure we'll find a way to slow her down. :)

The only thing I'm not too sure about is her sleeping at night. She sleeps in her crate in the kitchen and I'm a little concerned that I won't be able to keep my eye on her. Should I take the crate upstairs so I can see her or just hope she will be ok on her own.

It won't hurt to do that for a couple of nights. I will probably let Roo sleep upstairs for a few nights when it's her turn.

Good luck Bess, hope all goes well and a wishing you a speedy recovery xxx.

Is Bess that age already? these poo babies seem to be growing so fast. Hope all goes well for you, I'm sure it will. I can imagine you may have a hard time keeping her quiet by your descriptions of her, at least Merlin can have a restful day or two until she recovers fully!

We used a babygro/onesie with Meadow, and she didn't bother with her stitches at all, so she slept in her usual place downstairs, and was fine. I think you would have to observe Bess, and see how interested she is in her stitches, then you could make your decision. Basically do whatever is going to make you worry less about her :).

I'm sure Bess will be fine. For Molly the first night was the worse cause she had the cone on so couldn't fit in her crate. She whined a lot during the night so I would go lie down beside her on the floor and then she would quiet down. The we got her a onesie (one for babies and cut a hole out for her tail) and this inflatable collar so with that she fit in her crate and couldn't get at her stitches. She didn't mind it much. The cone she hated!

She will be 6 months on Weds, she is still quite small though and looks like a puppy.
Not sure what Merlin will make of it tomorrow when Bess is away for most of the day. Going to take him out on the park to play football which he loves, so hopefully tire him out before we fetch her and he might leave her alone. If not I'll have to separate them for a bit.

Kiki was the same, although she did not have any external stitches - just glue. She had her onesie on and went to bed as normal in the kitchen. She was very sleepy for the first couple of days, after that back to bouncing everywhere. She never bothered her wound site at all, although I kept her onesie on if she was home alone - I think that it also kept Inzi from licking at it.
I do hope that it goes well for Bess.

Honey was spayed last Tuesday and I've been amazed at how well she has done. Apart from being naturally sleepy on the Tuesday, she bounced back to her usual self in no time and didn't seem phased by the wound at all. They gave her plenty of pain relief to last until the next day and I just put her in her crate as usual as she was just wanting to sleep. Honey also had the glue too with no external stitches. Hope all goes well! x

Just to say best wishes for today. I am sure your mind will be on Bess all day.
Poppy had her spay a month ago she had keyhole so cant comment too much on conventional. Poppy was just sleepy when she came home slept all night.
Next morning a bit whimpery as I expect the pain relief had worked off by lunchtime she was her normal self. The hardest bit was stopping her getting too boisterous. She never worried the op area as there was only a tiny spot.
So if it is keyhole no probs whatsoever for you and Bess :twothumbs:

Bess is having the conventional op.

Dropped her off at 9 this morning and she was ok. Vet give her a quick check over asked me a few questions and then we had to leave her.
The vet s going to microchip her while she is sedated and going to check her ears and trim her nails.
Is soooo quiet without her and the house just doesn't seem right without her. I know she's only been with us for 4 months but I can't think what life was like before we had her.
She is a lively and loveable little girl and makes us laugh everyday with the things she gets up to.
I just hope having the op will not alter her in any way As I've heard that it can sometimes change their personality.
Merlin seems sad and is just laying under the coffee table, he's not looked round for her but he doesn't seem his usual self.

Anyway not got to ring the vet until 3 so it's going to be a long day but hopefully everything will have gone ok and we'll be able to fetch her soon after.

Can't believe how bad I feel. :(:(:(

Hope all is going well for Bess. Meadow didn't change one iota after being spayed, she bounced home after the op, bounced round all evening, and has continued to bounce through life ever since :):):)

Hugs to you and Bess.

Aw bless you & Bess - she will be absolutley fine and I am sure within a few days she will be back to her lovely little self again! Darcie had conventional spay at 6months and I felt quilty as wanted keyhole but no local vets offered it - I really didnt need to worry as all went well and she was absolutely fine, alittle dazed the evening we picked her up and the following 2 days she looked sad and sorry for herself but after that I couldnt keep her still she was as lively as ever and still a little sweetie. Now at 10months you would never even know she had anything done and is certainly the same Darcie :) x

Hugs to you & Bess x

You must be counting off the moments until you can go and pick up little Bess.
Kiki had a convesntional spay, recovered very well and there was absolutely no change in her totally gorgeous personality.
Hope that Bess's recovery goes well.

Reassuring the hear about no changes in personality and quick recoveries :) I am going to take Tilly when we get back from our summer holiday, when I will be off school for 6 weeks so I can be with her all the time. Only 6 and a half weeks away :(

How long before do you have to book them in?

X
