Just took Ludo for his first walk around the block :) The vet recommended that we wait until after he gets his third set of vaccines next week, but we figured one loop around couldn't hurt and it is so lovely outside ...

and he absolutely loved it! I thought he hated his leash, but outside he doesn't mind it at all. He just trotted along with his mouth open looking happy as can be. The only trouble was when people were near - he'd start pulling on his leash because he desperately wanted to meet them - and people wanted to meet him as well! We met three neighbors that we never knew existed!

One of the cutest parts was at the beginning; he sat down at the edge of our property and just looked at us, like he knew it wasn't alright to leave our yard. Smart boy!

I am very excited, now that the weather is cooling down it is such a joy to take him out!

Glad to hear his first walk went ok! I remember Molly's first walk she was pulling to meet and greet everyone. Thought she would choke on her collar so we had to use a harness on her. Walks were very long cause everyone had to pick her up and pat her but she is very social now:D People still want to mawl her when we go out for walks so our walks end up taking forever on most days! People seem to think she is a toy or something ha!

Yesterday a little girl sat down and was hugging her etc... Molly loved it ............so be prepared to make lots of new friends on your walks they are like people magnets:D

Ah, that's lovely! :D Can't wait to take Alfie and Dexter out for their first walk; they have their final jabs on Monday, so a week after that we can take them out. It feels ages to wait having had them 3 weeks before being able to walk them outside. We have taken them on a couple of short car journeys, but as its school holidays they've not even been carried to pick the kids up from school yet! A whole new world awaits them! :D

It sure is true. Walks take twice as long as most people want to make a fuss of her. Have met and spoke to neighbours that used to just pass by. There are also all the other doggie walkers we have met sometimes on the field there are half dozen of us chatting while the dogs are exercising themselves.
I said to my 19 year old grandson to take her for a walk as she is a babe magnet.
Getting a dog must be the best antidote for loneliness that exists especially if it is a poo xxx

Do you think it would be best for us to get a harness for Ludo? My husband wants to stick with the regular leash and I know he'll get used to it, but I am worried for his little neck with how much he pulls to meet people.

A trainer would tell you to stick to the collar and lead. Harnesses are too comfortable and sometimes make pulling worse. We used a harness with Lola and I wish we never did.. She's learning now but it's taking a lot of training. She's always been a good walker but if she sees anything or anyone she gets really excited and pulls. I'm determined not to have the same with Nina so sticking to the collar and lead.

I switched from harness to collar partly because I couldn't find a harness that for right (either too big or too small as they were in that in-between stage). I got a wider collar so that there was less chance if biting into their throats. They will pull on occasion, but never more than once during a walk. Also much quicker to respond to gentle tug for correction.
