Hi everyone.

We have read with great interest many of the posts on here and they have been really helpful. I am pleased to say that we have taken the plunge and are now the proud owners of Alfie a 10 week old little black boy.

I have no doubt that the advice and experience on here will continue to be invaluable, and thank you all.

Alfie has been with us for 1 week now and is settling in well. He is very much in the biting, mouthing phase, but is equally very adorable. He is being crate trained, and has done well at night, but I feel a bit unsure about going to him when he is whining and barking. If it is the right thing to do, then I have no problem with going to him, but don't want to make a rod for my own back.

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

Regards

Congratulations on your new puppy. He sounds like he is doing really well and you are right not to go to him when he is whining and barking. If you do he will learn that it is the best way to summon you when he feels like a bit of company. :)

Hi Graham .. congrats on being a cockapoo owner .. Please post a pic of your lovely Alfie :)

Night time routines are important but all puppies are different, and so are all owners :)

Hi Graham

Welcome to the forum :welcome:

It sounds like Alfie is settling in well. Do you have any pictures you'd care to share? We're suckers for pictures on here :).

My name is Turi - my partner Marcus and I are getting our first Cockapoo in three weeks. Cannot wait!!! She is an apricot girl from English working lines and very sweet.

It sounds like Alfie is settling in well, do let us know how you get on!

Congratulations on your new puppy Graham. You can't go wrong with a black boy :D:D ( I have one too)

For some advice on training- please feel free to have a read on our training section on our cockapoo-owners-club website.

There is a bit on puppies in general training and also some very helpful advice from our ADPT trainer and behaviourist Anne in the Q& A section.

Hope this helps :)

Hi
Glad Alfie is settling in well. I love black puppies too. Well I love them all colours really. We have had our little Girl, Bo, home for just over a week so she's about 11/12 weeks. She has a crate with a bed in and a separate bed in the kitchen. We leave the crate door open all the time so she can come and go and we leave food and water out all the time. She cried most of the first night but since then has been great and just settles down when we shut the kitchen door. She starts barking around 6/7am and I think it's to get us up! She's doing well with toilet training and goes outside most of the time though we still leave some paper by the door just in case we're not around when she wants to go. Maybe you could leave the radio on low if you think he might be lonely. Good luck with Alfie.

Ah well done with Alfie. Pushca is black with her white chest and toes. I very nearly gave in on Pushca's first night home and I felt wretched hearing her cry without her mummy and siblings. But we had to leave her and she was as good as gold after that. Beware tho he will get away with anything as they are so adorable....
Enjoy you have 1000's of great moments ahead
