Hello again,

Well here i have another little question for you all.

Whilst trawling the internet some owners have referred to "bad behaviour" in there cockapoo's. Is this typical behaviour like other dogs (just checking boundaries) are is it something to do with the breed??

I must admit it has slightly scared a little, as i all want is a happy little chappie who will be obedient and a pleasure to be around.

I have spoken to a couple of breeders today and i could possibly have a little family member in about 9 weeks. So exciting.:D

Also do all owners use a crate???

thanks again ally

I have no experience of real bad behaviour but it depends what others mean about bad behaviour... they need some basis training, need boundaries set, need leadership from their owner but generally this breed wants to be loved and to love you right back :)

I have three and they all have their own personality but they all have character and my kids are cockapoo mad .. the whole school wants a cockapoo!!! They are a fun loving breed

lol its a dog thing, every one panics thingking their puppy is turning into a devil dog. its all down to the work you put in.

most people use crate three on my girls share a crate and Gypsy just sleeps at the side of it. but she is 5 now. and is happy to be with them but out at the side of the crate. lol she is the only one now who gives me a dirty look if i need her to go into the crate. lol she is to goood for the crate now, where as the other put them selves in and are happy there.

I have commented in threads about Beau's behaviour but it really is nothing to worry about just as JoJo and Kendal have said she is pushing the boundaries and once we let her know she can't get away with it she stops ie time out for a couple of minutes in another room as Cockapoos are real people pleasers and hate being separated from us! Our trainer has said that at 5 months some can go through the terrible twos and at 14 months some turn into a teenager but this is all breeds not just Cockapoos. If you do experience this you just need to up the training and set boundaries and be consistent as like a child they will push their luck if they can. Cockapoos are easily trained and love to please and be loved :)

Ha ha ha ah yes the adolescent stage .... nothing to worry about Ally but Ali is right they do have a few moments at this age .. I am laughing here because when Oakley went through it I was holding my head thinking why is he doing that but now Honey has had a few moments of not coming back to me instantly .. I am more relaxed and thinking ahh yes she is hormonal :S

They don’t change that much and come out the other side like a dream dog ....

I spoil Dylan big time and he thrives on it and I honestly can't think of any bad behaviour from him. I don't use a crate as I've never been keen on them and my hubby is very anti and fortunately we've never had any problem through not using one. Dylan has the run of our open-plan house even when we're out and we've never had any damage. At night he sleeps in our room, but recently sometimes chooses to stay downstairs where the floor is cooler. They are wonderful dogs as you will soon discover.

the pup i hope to get is from a cocker spaniel stud and a the bitch is a minature poodle.
the puppies are due next week. The breeder has bred cockapoos before and has shown photos from breedings. (they look all scuffy looking in the cutest way of course) lol.
the breeder is assuming that they will come out chocolate, chocolate white and chocolate parti (not to sure what the parti is)
the breeder sounds very knowledgable and friendlly and luckily lives only about 40 minutes away so i can visit.

is there anything particular i should be asking or looking out for?

Parti is just white with chocolate markings.Ask about the eye tests the parents have had and ask to see up to date proof of this.make sure the puppies will be well socialised before leaving for their new home ie used to household noises, preferably kids etc.always see mum with the pups, its not always possible to see dad and remember that when you get your puppy we will want to see lots of pics lol xxx

partie is a mix of two colours the dominant colour must be white coberting atleast i think 80% of the body, i have two partie girls my American mini who is a Red sable & White and my English mini who is black & White parti.

i agree with mandy about the testing etc

Hi Ally,
Good Luck with your purchase - hope all goes well and that you enjoy the whole puppy buying package too x
We would love to see photos when you get the chance - especially with the mix you have gone with.

Ally all puppies can be naughty just like children. Cockapoos are no different they just need patience, firm handling and praise for good behaviour. I'm sure you will get the obedient pet that you are after but obviously good behaviour needs to be taught.

As for your crating question- I was unsure about crates too at the beginning. Now Dexter sleeps happily in his crate at night and already I dont need to use one during the day when I go out. I give him the run of the whole house when I go out -( bedroom doors closed) and there has never been a problem.
