Buddy has been with us for 2 days now and we are all totally besotted with him. He is gorgeous-so cute and cuddly.....I could go on and on!!!
Just wondered if anyone can reassure me how long it is before he should be able to go all night without a wee? He cried and I took him out at midnight and 3am this morning-dry bed this morning :) I was so proud of him. Just wondering when I will get a full nights sleep (Buddy is 7 weeks, 5 days old). Thanx.

Welcome to the world of besotted cockapoo owners ...

Each puppy is different, you could just leave an area for night time toileting which prevents you getting up to a crying puppy, I always leave a toilet area and I have had puppies that don't make a peep all night and are dry at night by approx 10-12 weeks then the toilet area can be removed.

You have to find a routine that suits you as a new puppy owners, I can't wait to see pictures .. aren't cockapoo puppies the best :)

So glad you are enjoying being a new cockapoo owner, aren't they just fab :D

The night time toileting is a bit like asking how long is a piece of string. Some on here say their pups are dry after a few nights, other a few weeks, some a few months.

The best thing to do is take him outside just before you go to bed. Do you get up in the night if he calls or do you just get up and take him. I did get up once for Millie at 3am and decided never again, I wanted my sleep. Probably not ideal as I always came down to a wee or poo for weeks on end. But she only went to the loo on her puppy pad end not her bed end.

I agree with the above. I didn't want to get up in the night for mine and he used a puppy pad for about 10 days and was then dry. I didn't take it away for a while though, just to be sure. It took a while to get used to getting up earlier at the weekends though as I didn't feel it fair to leave him beyond 7am (ish!) but it didn't take long for him to sleep longer and now the boys usually wake him up when they come down.

He's now 7 months old and I've never yet had to get up in the night:)

Jarvis ignored the puppy pad and chose to wee on his vet bed. I had to rearrange my sleeping patterns from 10pm to 11:30pm then he sleeps through till 5:30-6am I then let him out and go back to bed for an hour.. Most nights he has a little wee in his bed however I know this won't last forever. I tried to wake in the night but always missed the times he peed and didn't want him to get used to me getting up to him, also I am a wreck if I don't get my sleep!! I also restrict the water allowance after his tea :)

Now toilet training i got rid of all paper and training pads on advice of my vet...I literally let him out every half hour or so and get the gist of when his times are. I clicker and reward and ignore any accidents indoors and he's doing so well.

Each pup is different and you need to find a solution to suit both of you xx

Having a puppy is just like having a new born baby....adjusting your sleep routine and definitely less sleep for while! It depends on what method you choose. I left newspaper and training pads down and it took about 2-3 weeks for him to go through the night without "toileting"....but I didn't get up to him at all through the night. Others prefer to get up in the night and do toilet breaks. It's all about what works best for you. All dogs toilet train in the end with lots of effort and perseverance.

I. Could use all e help i can get when it comes to toilet training - she will be outside for ages and then come in and go wee wee haha :) she is completely ignoring the puppy pads - should i use newspaper instead ? Xx
I think puppy pads have an odour in them to encourage puppies to use the pad. The downside is, they get used to them and its difficult to get them to then go outside.

One way to encourage toileting outside is to use a spray which is available from pet shops. Spray it in the area you want her to go.

Indoors, when she has an accident, you need to make sure the odour is cleared up as well as the mess. Carpet cleaner apparently doesn't do this, you need biological washing powder mixed with water or again a spray from the pet shop specifically for this job.

When she finally does a wee outside, lots of praise from you and a treat will encourage more weeing outside. Have you named the wee, so that you can encourage her to go when necessary?

I had the spray and made no difference to Jarvis he weed really well but had to spot him doing 'the circling' motion before I picked him up telling him "out" I pretty much know when he needs to go out...I have the problem that he doesn't show the signs he wants to go out so having to take him out often, but at least he goes. Pets At Home floor odour and stain remover is excellent at removing odours and smells nice.

I knew he was over the puppy pads when he started to rip them up !!! I have a box full left but use them when visiting people's houses and when I am out and about :)
