Has anyone else had problems finding a car harness to fit their cockapoo? Polly is 8 months now and we just went in a couple of local pet shops to buy a car harness, but either the size was too small around her shoulders with the clip on the back too near her neck and not half way down the back like it should be, or else it was too big a girth, even fully adjusted. I did think that a dachsie shaped harness would work, but all car harnesses seem to come in standard sizes.
Anyone know of any for slim dogs compared to the length of their backs?

I had trouble with Freddy's, but in the end settled and would recommend this one:

Clix Car Safe Dog Harness (I think its from the Company of Animals) - it comes in various sizes including Small (55-65cm) and extra small.

The first size I bought was the small but I couldn't get it over his head! I moved on to the medium size which fit him perfectly (it is adjustable at the sides) until he had a drastic haircut and he could slip right out of it! So for a while I used his non-pull dog walking harness to secure him the car. Happily, his coat is back to normal now and it fits him perfectly.

I don't know if there is somewhere you could go to try these out before you buy? I bought mine from Amazon and was lucky enough to be able to sell my small one to my friend who had a schnauzer.

Thanks Natasha. Our local pet shops only stock one brand unfortunately - all the same one! Polly was clipped a couple of weeks ago so that must be complicating matters from what you say!

I have the Ancol in a small for Betty who is one of the smaller cockapoos at just over 5kg and this fits her perfectly and she's used this since she was 4 or 5 months old.

As Julie says, it's a bit fiddly at first but once you realise which way round it goes it's fine.

I did pick Betty up off the floor holding the harness loop to see if it fit and she fell out so realised it needed tightening up a bit!!!!!

Had the same problem with Hattie she is crated in the car but for walks wanted a harness ended up buying one to fit a Yorkie! Must be some big Yorkie as it is on it's smallest fitting and is still a bit too big!
P.S. One problem I have is the adjusting buckle slides end up behind her front legs which I know can cause problems but we will persevere. I did look at the rope versions but the "sheepskin" sleeves seemed too bulky. Every day brings new challenges right now I think poo 2 may sort Hatties constant activity during the day she is now flat out!
