I am getting a puppy from a breeder who we have gotten a puppy from before. I was on a wait list for a female sable puppy. When they were born she said she had two in the litter. The litter is now 3 weeks old. She sent me these pics. To my eye they look like black and white tuxedos. I know it can take some time for the sable to come through but I haven't seen puppies this dark that have grown up to be sable. Pictures are of two different females. What do you think?

If I remember rightly from when I was looking, sable pups start very dark, I was looking at 8 week old pups that were still mostly black, but you could tell they were sable. I'd say 3 weeks is a bit too early to tell, however if it's a reputable breeder she may know they will be sable due to previous litters perhaps.

I had no idea what colour pup I was after, coat colour came second to temperament and how comfortable I felt with the breeder :) I've always had all black animals though so ended up going with my gut!
