Collars

Betty has just started getting matts behind her ears..I think I read somewhere that rolled/round collars are better for this. Does anyone have any
experience of this please?? They seem quite hard to find - none of the pet
shops/garden centres around here seem to have them anymore as I'm told they are no longer popular. I know you can still get them online but prefer to see/feel them... just wondered whether they are worth the effort:confused:

Colin I'm sure Sezra ordered one for Daisy. Not sure if it has arrived yet.

Thanks:) I've seen these but really want to know if they actually make any difference (matting less) behind the ears before I purchase:)
I had read the same and would love to hear some feedback too.

Sarah, can you do a review for us? Is Daisy wearing hers now?
Or has Betty just got to the age where the mattings beginning to kick in?

I'm sure that is the main reason but if i can reduce them by getting a rolled collar...just wanted to know if they made any significant difference.:)
Hello! Yes, Daisy has hers, it is beautiful! I bought it from;

http://www.franceskellybridles.co.uk/products.php?bridle_type=269&nam=Dog Collars and Harnesses

I will try and take a picture and upload it. We (me and Daisy) are very happy with it! It was £22 but fabulous quality and Frnaces is really helpful. x
Apologies for the rubbish photo, my phone battery is too low to use the flash! Daisy also apologises for it looking a bit grubby but she has been wearing for about a week and a half now! :) The darker pink on the inside is not dirst but the edge of the leather which has been completely smoothed down.

I have to say that it is so smooth and round it is fab! I would definitely buy one from her again.

If you do order one, measure your dog's neck without any slack. She will put a holes in either side of this measurement so that you can adjust it accordingly. There is also a great choice of colours available.

Hope this helps. :)

I think Daisy is at the age when her matts are starting however I must say that although she has been wearing it for only a short time we have had no new matts around her neck, just the normal ones behind her ears and under her arm/legs.

I am quite surprised at how much shorter he hair is around the collar area and I think this is from her old collar rubbing it, not sure though, just guessing.

I am soo pleased with Daisy's and it is also soft if anyone is worried about the leather being stiff. :)
Talking of matts around the ears. Millie got groomed today, I'll update tomorrow when I can add photos. But she had terrible matts around her ears and they had to be clipped off.

It was largely causes by her fur changing from puppy to adult, but also apparentely my poor grooming
What a gorgeous collar Sarah! Simple and stylish and a gorgeous girlie colour...i want one:) x

That sounded like they clipped her ears off! :D

My grooming is not great, I am trying. Look forward to seeing pictures of Millie. x
The collar looks beautiful Sarah. So why are the rolled collars unpopular or frowned upon? Does anyone know? Rufus is a horrendous puller so maybe it would not be the best type of collar for him? I've no idea!

Why are they unpopular? I wasn't aware that they were....they are also called Spaniel collars and are used by lots of long haired breed owners. Daisy's is just as strong as a normal collar and she walks the same as in her previous collar.

You can't buy them in PAH near me, I presumed it was because they were a bit more specialist?
Thanks Ssarah, I think I will end up ordering one. The lady in my local pet
shop said they were unpopular but did not expand on why. I've tried loads
of places round here with no success.. some online reviews state that the
ones they purchased were quite stiff to begin with so good to hear yours is nice and soft...Is yours pink or red BTW??
I nearly ordered red and then at the last minute changed to pink! :D

Maybe she meant they were not very common? ;) :D

I bought an Ancol one before we even got Daisy and we have never used it because it was too small. That is much stiffer and definitely not as pretty! :)
