I may have read too many books, crate is for when? Just night time, but what if I have a crate and block him off in a area with crate. His crate is not big enough for sleeping, and toliet training, so I blocked him in an area , he woke up dry. I fed him took him out, he'd poo, then I put him in crate to get ready for work, he was ok didn't cry much. Came back, took him out he didn't pee out put less in the house, so I took him back out. Leave for work put him in crate, somone will let him out in an hour...

We use our crate for night time, when we leave, calm down time and any time i can't watch Olive. She is 4 months now and I am just starting to give her a tiny bit of freedom in the house without me following her. For example I'll go to the bathroom now and leave her out of her crate, but when she was really tiny she went in her crate any time i couldn't watch her. Because of this we had very few accidents in the house and none that i didn't know about. If a puppy has run of the house for even 5 minutes you aren't going to know if they piddle on the carpet. I feel like crate training is paying off for us. Olive is pretty much house trained at 4 months and she really does love her crate.

We don't tend to use ours much during the day. We went out for a couple of hours around lunchtime.. just as he was getting sleepy and he was happy to stay in there whilst we weren't around. But generally, he has a dog bed which goes into the crate at night and comes out during the day into the lounge. When he gets tired and we are here, he clambers into that and goes to sleep or sometimes he just goes to sleep by our feet :D

I only ever used my crates at night. I couldn't bring myself to cage them during the day. Mine always had the run of the kitchen when tiny and now they have the run of the house- which I have carefully puppy proofed.

I use Bailey's crate for quite time, naps, (our tea time, as he jumps up alot at the dinner table) and time out, Bailey has always stayed in my room in his own bed, generally i put him to bed around 10pm this has been since i brought him home(i know this is not for everyone, but it's been great for us so far) he's never toileted in my room and goes straight to sleep within minutes of being put in in his bed, he generally wakes up around 6.30 7 am which is really good for both of us :D

Hope this helps

When we intially got Kody he spent a lot of time in the crate. I felt really bad however the crate made potty training very easy. Kody woke in the morning from his crate, went out to pee and poo, in the house for breakfast, back in the crate for 15 minutes up to an hour then back out to poo. We followed this routine until he pooped after he ate. THEN and only then did he have free time to roam and play around the house. When we couldn't watch him he was in the crate as well. Now at 6 months, he's out for hours enjoying the house and running around.
