Hi - we've just bought some Dog Rocks. They go in the girls' water bowls and are meant to stop the lawn discolouring/yellowing when they go out for a 'comfort break'.

Haven't tried them yet and before we do we wanted to check if anyone has any experience of them and whether they work (they also need to be replaced every 2 months)

Thanks
Ian

I have tried them but can't tell you whether they work or not as Weller just found other ways to get a drink rather than his bowl, puddles, pots etc it was impossible for me to make sure he was only drinking water from his bowl, so gave up.:)

Millie definitely burns the grass. You can pour water over it straight away to dilute their wee and stop the burning effect. But that is really too organised for me.

Not sure I like the sound of DogRocks, what is in it that has such an effect on their wee.

I have used them in Dexters bowl he had them from a couple of weeks after we got him early so didn't take any notice of them. My sister-in-law told me about them and said they worked for her and stopped the brown patches. I don't have any brown patches so presume they are working.

One of my vets swears by them. You have to give them a whie to get working but she can tell when they need replacing. A lot of dogs will play with the rocks and run away with them whic isn't ideal- one thing to try is to fill a jug with water and sit the rocks in the jug- fill the bowl from this and top the jug up. Also bear in mind you shouldn't replace the water, only top it up as the rocks need to sit in it a while to work so for those dogs who make their water grotty and need a regular replacement, use the jug tip so you cn clean the bowl between times :)

I also have a completely destroyed lawn but like you am concerned about adding chemicals to Izzy's water, particularly as I feed her NI to stay as natural as possible. Has anyone using them done any research? I would love to solve the lawn problem.

For those that are concerned that we are putting chemicals in our dogs water, this is the headline from their website:

'All natural minerals, no chemicals - straight from the earth'

We too have been very keen to keep the diets of our pups as natural as possible so have only considered this as it is also a natural remedy! Here is a link to the website:

We put them in the water yesterday - new lawn being laid today so fingers crossed it will survive once they are allowed on it again!
