Well we finally picked Dudley up yesterday, was worried about journey after hitting a snowstorm early on but that cleared so was ok (still 2hrs35mins though). well we put Dudley in a fabric crate as it was only myself and my son in the car, he cried for 5 mins or so then gave up. We visited a friends who lives half way, he enjoyed meeting her 2 children, their cat was not impressed but after he spat and yowled then flew out, Dudley just looked at me as if to say "what's his problem?"! We were home in plenty of time for him to explore the house - and what an explorer! climbing up onto a small wicker basket then nearly pulling himself up onto the unit next to it! At bedtime we put him in crate with an area next to it just big enough for a puppy pad(about 11pm). He cried for about 10-15 mins then settled, he woke us up crying at 2.45 again stopped after a while, unfortunately my son got up for a wee after he stopped crying which of course set him off again! I hoped that would be it, but no he decided we really needed to wake up at 4.30 as well!! again he didn't cry for too long and I went down at 6.30, I was really surprised to find he had stayed clean all night, unfortunately I let him out before putting my coat on and he didn't make it outside. He has been good fun today, so glad it has been dry as I have been outside about every 15 mins!! not sure he is getting the idea why but with good timing there have been no more accidents. I know I won't be able to keep that up as I'm shattered - must start the puppy diary, he looks much more Cocker than poodle and i'm not sure he has much poodle intelligence! will try to post a picture that shows that well - think maybe we should have called him Zippo, after the clown!!

Sound like he is doing great. I found the best way was if I got up for a comfort break Hattie went out as well even if she did not want to, that way we both had a good nights sleep. I think it is a lot to expect a pup to go all night untill they are at least 16 weeks old some do some don't. Do what works for you if it is right it will fit in with your lifestyle. I will say don't force pup to conform to the "ideal or right way" to do things. Read up on lots of training then decide what is best for you after all this is probably a 15 year relationship you are building so it is best to do what works for you.

Thanks Sue, I really didn't expect him to go through, so left extra room with puppy pad, so was really surprised that he hadn't been! I'm so dozy if I do have a comfort break, and just felt if I had to go down to let him out it would take me ages to get back to sleep, and wonder if he may get used to it and take longer to go through? maybe if he continues to cry a few different times in the night I may change what i'm doing but will see how he goes the next couple of nights.

I can let Hattie out and go back to sleep without really waking up! Guess it comes with practice or maybe a Nytol!
