This afternoon whilst making my way to the park for Freddys usual walk I spotted a lady with two dogs across the road from me. One of them caught my interest because he looked like a cockapoo, but quite a large one! He was black with a little white chest and tip of his tail was also white.

I called over and asked the lady what breed her dog was and she asked me to guess! oh the pressure! I plumped for labradoodle because of his size (he was a little taller than Freddy, but more chunky built) and she said no! and asked me to guess again!! By chance I had been reading in an old dog magazine about Portuguese Water Dogs and they had stuck in my mind as they looked so similar to cockapoos - so I said "Portuguese Water Dog?" - the lady was shocked! She said she had never known anyone to guess correctly!

He was six months old and absolutely gorgeous and aside from his size, he could have easily passed for a cockapoo! I must admit, I was a tiny bit disappointed because I was hoping for a new cockapoo friend for Freddy!

She asked what breed Freddy was and she was very bemused when I said cockapoo, as usual I had to explain the cross.... it seems the cockapoo is as little known as the Portuguese Water Dog! :)

There is a lovely Portuguese Water dog on our school run - called Jose, I thought the same when I saw him that he was a big cockapoo and funnily and his owners thought Arthur was a mini version of him when he was a puppy! I have to say tho his coat would have me beat its too curly!

A cockapoo can be anything you want it to be ! Everyone I have met who is interested has said they had no idea what the dog would look like and they all have been intersted which is good for the cross but we need to promote good breeding and not get too hung up on "Designer" dogs
