Harley is coming up for a year old now and some of the older members will remember I was training him to be an assistant dog so thought I would give you an update.
As well as his normal training - sitting, down, heal and stay etc he has been learning to help me. I am deaf (apart from some sound with an aid) I have also had four back operations including metal work and have just had to arthiroscopies (forgive spelling) I will need new knees at some point. It appears I have arthritis in a few areas. So Harley will now remove my socks, and trousers we are working on loading the washing machine and emptying it. This week I have begun to get him to undo my shoe laces. He loves learning these new things and to him its all a game and in return he will get his favourite ball or a treat. He will pick things up if I drop them and I almost have him dropping them in my hand but he sometimes gets a little excited but he will get there.
He is doing very well for a young pup and will give a paw or touch with his nose, as well as rolling over much to the delight of any children who are watching!!
He is about to take his PAT dog assesment if he passes he will be able to go into hospices or sick childrens wards to brighten their day, I know he has helped me with my depression and all the pain and health issues so I know he can do the same for them. I will keep you updated. :proud:

Mary, how lovely to hear from you, I have often thought about you and wondered how you and Harley are. One of my favourite ever photos was of Harley and his toy box. What an amazing boy he is, you have done brilliantly with training him, you must be so proud.

How brilliant that Harley has helped you so much. You must be very proud of him. What a clever a Cockapoo he is!

My Obi turned 1 year old a few weeks ago and we've had our fair share of health problems with him (he got Meningitis at 6 months old) )but he's well on the way to a full recovery now. :D

Ah thanks Mary. He's doing really well now and we're down to just 2.5mg of steroids a day now. One more month and we can switch to every other day for a few weeks and then hopefully after that medication free. That will be a day I will celebrate!

Thank you everyone. I am so very proud of him and he really is a special boy. I have Yogi who I would like to do agility with but because of my mobility and deafnes will need to use voice and hand commands but i'm sure its possible and we are only doing it for fun. Harley is amazing with Yogi he is so gentle, I shouldnt be surprised because he has a wonderful nature but he could have been put out with new pup because he works so closely with me but nope he just took it all in his stride.
After my knee operations, I couldn't walk for a few days and he lay on the bed with me and his head resting just below the bandages he stayed like that for hours.
I was so lucky to find him. :ilmc:

What a great team you will both make. We are all close to our dogs, but I image you will have an even close bond between you both.

Will Yogi be learning to help out too?
What is so funny is that Yogi took to helping me get undessed he watched Harley once and the next night it was ZOOM it had my jeans off before harley could blink, so now I let yogi do my trousers and harley does my socks, hat and jumper! They just love doing something to help. But I've not been well and harley hurt is leg so put his exam back a bit well a lot! But hopefully it will be soon. I will keep you all informed. Thanks again for your support and kind words mary and my special boys Harley and yogi xx woof woof
