I’ve been browsing these boards for some weeks so thought it was time to introduce myself and Benson. I work for myself in a small office and am fortunate enough to be able to take a dog to work with me. I'd been thinking of getting a dog for some time (with lots of encouragement from the lady I work with) and it was my girlfriend, Ali, who gave me the final push and suggested a Cockapoo. After much research we finally found Benson and brought him home on the 6th of April and he’s now a little over four moths old.

I last had a puppy when I was a child and had forgotten how much work was involved. As soon as we overcome one challenge Benson finds a new one for us. We’ve been to puppy class four times now but whilst he’s come a long way on the training front at home, when we get to class he just wants to play with the other puppies for the entire hour. He becomes very frustrated when this isn’t possible. Hopefully the novelty of the other puppies will wear off, but I’m not holding my breath.

aww he is so cute, he almost looks like a toy in that photo, he looks very spanial at the moment but i bet his fur will go curly before long.

glad to hear he is doing well at training lol he will learn to focas around other dogs, just takes time.

as for the forgeting how much work their is in a puppy, we forgot in the two years between Inca and Echo and then again after 2 years before getting Delta.

cant wait to hear more about benson, and seeing lots of photos.

Welcome Andy, we have quite a few regular members in St Albans now - must be falling over cockapoos in Verulamium Park!
Don't worry about Benson's behaviour - most of them are exactly like that, except with my Dylan, he constantly barked and howled as well!
If you're interested, some of the St Albans people will be at our Southern meet-up this Sunday at Rickmansworth Aquadrome, and we have some young puppies coming - great chance to socialise for Benson and you. I am posting the final details on the "Mass Cockapoo Event thread today. Just post on there if you'd like to join us.

I do hope so Kendal, my girlfriend is VERY concerned he's not curly enough and won't end up looking anything like his mum (pic attached)

Hello Andy and Benson. We have yet to pick our little girl up so I am spending lots of time relaxing before the whirlwind arrives:D

Benson looks very cute and I don't believe for one minute he could put a paw wrong - puppy class or not ;)

Hi Andy,

Benson looks lovely - but don't think that the coat will end up like his mum.

She is obviously a Cockapoo - do you know what generation she is herself (F1 / F1b / F2 etc etc) ?

By the look of Benson's ears and head there is a tight curl like you would find on a Poodle coat - was his dad a Poodle ??? (or another Cockapoo) ?

This info will help throw some light on how he may develop.

Stephen x

Welcome Andy and Benson, such a cute face! I can see quite a curl developing on his ears so wouldn't worry too much about his coat.

Lol, Helen, we're planning a Cockapoo takeover!

Hello Andy and Benson - Another St Albans Cockapoo!!!

Where are your training classes? Lolly and I go to The Family Dog in Redbourne. We have been twice now and last week Lolly was alot like Benson. She just wanted to eat all the rabbit poo on the floor and get to the other puppies to play. she got quite frustrated with me by the end.
But we practice what we've learnt during the week and her training is going well so I'm not worrying too much. Our next class is tonight so fingers crossed Lolly will be on best behaviour!

Are you coming to the meet up at Rickmansworth Aquadrome this sunday? If not maybe I'll bump into you at Veralmium park (we were there this morning and bumped into another forum member :D)

Where did you get Benson from. He looks quite alot like Harley (Mez-uk) who is also local and around the same age. I wonder if they are from the same litter?

Hi Stephen, he's an F2. Picture of Dad attached. Any insight you have about his final coat appearence would be greatly appreciated, I understand it's not an exact science.

Hi Janet,

There does seem to be a few in the area. A 2 year old Cockapoo called Bailey was the first dog Benson met on his very first walk.

We go to puppy class at the village hall in Tyttenhanger. I did ring the Redbourn club but they weren't taking new entrants for 3 or so weeks and wanted to get Benson started when he was as young as possible.

We mainly walk in the fields behind Sainsburys/Marks & Spencer in London Colney as that's where I work but have given him a few of walks/runs in Verulamium at the weekend. I've also noticed the similarity between Benson and Harley. We got Benson from near Guildford but think he's a little older than Harley.

Hi there,Benson is adorable!! He looks very spaniel like,i breed f2s and in an f2 litter there is always usually one puppy that will resemble more of the cocker spaniel and may moult, the spaniel type pups in my litters do shed hair.He does look like a cuddly toy, love those big ears!:)

Welcome Andy and Benson He is lovely and I must say looks very much like Harley!! scary! I don't think Harley is going to be fluffy and curly in fact i'm sure he wont be I have added a picture below, I was a little sad that he wasn't going to be really fluffy but I wouldn't change him for the world now and he is so much easier to get clean whenmuddy and wet! however I have noticed that his coat is changing and getting thicker and wavy and I thought I was going to end up with a cocker spaniel lookalike! He is an F1 pedigree cocker and poodle parents but I don't think I will really know until he is 9months at least! Benson looks a little fluffier but you will love him whatever he looks like!
We live in Berkhamsted and there does seem to be a lot of mad cockapoo owners in this area. I hope you and your girlfriend and Benson can come to the cockapoo picnic at Rickmansworth Aquadrome on Sunday details posted. loads going mental day me thinks heres Harley!!!! see they are alike!

Harley came from Malden in Essex Mum pedigree black and tan Dad Pedigree Parti poodle (black and white) Parti poodles are not a recognised breed standard by British Kennel Club but they bought him from Germany where he is Pedigree:confused:.
I hope they do come on sunday

Mary, Dylan came from a breeder in Maldon too. They were near Althorne down a country lane - a lady called Deb - puppies in the stable. Isn't the same breeder by any chance??
