Hi,

I'm new here! I've joined your site today as we have just made our first enquiry on our way to getting our first dog ever, a cockapoo! We've wanted a dog for a few years, and have been researching cockapoo's for a while now,and I still feel we have more than tons to learn so thought this site would help me to do that! We've just contacted the owner today for the first time, and she sounds perfect for us. This will be the cocker spaniels second and last litter, from a family home. We hope to meet her soon. If all goes well our puppy will be born in June, and be ready to join us in August. So all very exciting and looking forward to learning as much as I can before then!

Hello and welcome!
Hi there!

Welcome to the forum :welcome:

My name is Turi – my boyfriend Marcus and I have an F1 Apricot Cockapoo from English working lines from a breeder in Cambridge called Broadreach Dogs. You can read more about Saffi on my blog below.

I think Cockapoos from a family home/hobby breeder environment sound lovely. Just one question though, is the Poodle sire PRA tested and have any other health tests been conducted?

Look forward to hearing more!

Turi x

Hi Turi,

I'll have a list of questions ready prepared for the owner when we meet. I want to see the mother in it's home before the pups are born. I will be asking about the PRA test then. Being a bit green about all this, one worry is how will I know they are truthful, is there paperwork proof that the sire is PRA tested, and other tests? I guess I'll get a feeling whether it is right or wrong when I visit. So far we've literally only just had a quick first conversation but I got a great feeling from the owner on our initial conversation, she asked alot of questions about our family and environement etc. More than anything we were talking about timings for now. As hard as it will be, I'm prepared to walk away if it does not feel and right and continue our search.
It sounds positive at the moment and it’s great that you’re meeting Mum before the pups are born – we chose our breeder before the puppies were born and the lead up was so special!

There should be paperwork for PRA testing and other health tests such as hip scoring.

We are currently reading up on the fantastic health advice on JoJo's blog! and hopefully arming ourselves with the right questions. This is more scary than having my human babies, lol!
Hi & welcome :)
I hope you've found your breeder and your pup will be joining you shortly :D
Keep us updated!

Sorry so busy with work I've not logged on for a bit. We are collecting her on 11 may and she is apricot, not dissimilar to saffi. The mum is lily and I can't remember the sire. We r very excited it feels like the right decision and are looking forward to welcoming her into out lives and home. I've also managed to find a lady a in the village to help with training plus she's offered to look after her if we need to go to London. obviously I'm avoiding leaving her for a few weeks.

I need to buy a few things for her arrival. And then we will get her things once she has settled. Need to sort insurance which I've left to Pete to do.

Can't believe how quickly saffi has grown. Who were her parents?

No name chosen as yet cookie seems one thats a favourite at the moment. Lol
Wow… so just three weeks to go! How was it when you went to choose the little one? Aren’t they adorable at five weeks?!

Saffi’s Mum is Chloe (black and white working Cocker) and her Dad is Archie (Apricot Poodle). She really has grown over recent weeks. These pictures were taken over the weekend…

Saffi looks so grown up.

I'm confused I thought Anne said the cocker spaniel was called lily (but she was black and white) and the dad was apricot so it may well be archie.

We had three girls to choose from - Pete picked the one we ended up choosing first and she seemed really comfy in his arms. I had one of the other girls but she was really confident and wanted to be put down, very playful but you could see she had a very strong character. She was the same when Pete picked her up. The last little girl was very timid and wanted to be back in the pen. We both picked and tried to play with her but she was really unhappy and crying to be back with her brothers. Our little girl was just happy to settle - fell asleep in our arms and when we played she grew in confidence - coming to us. I did read up on that puppy test so did that with all three girls and I don't know this one felt right.

We had gone with the intention of just looking and had deliberately not taken cheque book or cash. So when it came to making a decision, I thinking okay right breed and we will get next time round, but Pete says "we've been talking about it for a long time - let's just go for it" As it happen we had some cash in the car as we had a show the night before in London, so we temporary used that to put the deposit down! Its strange but I don't feel overwhelmed by the decision...excited, a little anxious, but more about all the things we need to get, rather than her being here. ILMC has been brilliant in all the support and advise available by owners so I know if we get stuck we can ask those more experienced, like you and JoJo.

So our little girl (cookie is still the favourite at the moment) arrives 11th May.

Anne probably has two black and white Cocker girls – she wouldn’t have bred two litters so close together.

She has two apricot Poodles Archie and Oscar – Archie is slightly more timid than Oscar but they’re both gorgeous.

Your experience sounds similar to ours… there will always be more boisterous and more timid puppies in the litter and you have to go with your gut. We’ve been so happy with how Saffi has turned out, I know you won’t be disappointed!

When you have a moment post a picture! I’d love to see little Cookie!

will do...I did drop Anne an email the other day as I wanted to make a book as a keepsake of cookie asking for pics of mum and dad..she had told us when we met that mum had only had one other litter.
