I thought we had done all the research and had come up with finding the ideal puppy from a show cocker mum and miniature poodle dad. Today some one introduced the idea that the show cockers types are more suitable for retired people rather than as family pet and that the show type are more susceptible to cocker rage (which I had never heard of) We are new to having a dog and I wondered what everyone who knows these dogs thinks of these two points as it's got me worried. Help! many thanks.

Dont listen to anything like that because its utter rubbish and obviously coming from someone who is very inexperienced.I have working and american cockapoos,i have friends and clients( im a dog walker) with show type cockapoos and cockers all have wonderful personalities and in actual fact one of the show type cockapoos is far more hyper than my working type cockapoos, another show type cockapoo i know is very chilled they are all different and all have very different personalities but more to the point all are extremely friendly and most are in families with kids.Go and get the ideal puppy you have found and dont let stupid ignorant people like this ruin what should be a very happy time for you xxx

Definately RUBBISH!!! I have a show x mini and he is a perfect part of our family. I am a dog walker too and am lucky enough to have two toy x show cockapoos to walk. These two seem to have a slightly higher energy level than my dog but this can just be down to personality. The working x mini is more inclined to need a little more exercise and it's in their breeding to work and please but like Mandy says lots is down to personality and I have never met anyone yet that thought they had got the 'wrong' type!!
They all make great pets and which ever type you choose I don't think you will regret it one bit.

Ted is working/mini cross and has often been described (by passing strangers in a friendly way)as ' mad as a box of frogs', a friend of mine has show/mini cross and she is just as mental!

So any 'poo' will doo' - just enjoy - they are all great, funloving, amusing little characters; never met a mean one yet!:D

I have an English show cocker /toy poodle cross and he has become quieter as he has got older [he is a year old].I love that he can go on long country walks but is satisfied with a stroll round the block if its raining all day.Cockapoos seem great at fitting in with their owners lifestyle and have lovely temprements

I agree - Billy is also show / toy and has a wonderful personality, he also would be happy with a quick 20 min walk or a 3 hour hike!
If you have found a breeder you are happy with and everything else fits then go with it. In my opinion there are lots of people full of not so helpful advice and I think that silly people like this like to voice their opinions especially about cross breeds!!

Hi Alison, just not true I would say. I lost my two show cockers last year, sooty was quite lively but Amber was calmer. There is a show cocker in my training class and he is a lively boy. Avoid the solid colours if you are worried about rage syndrome, but I have known two blacks who were just lovely. :)
