HELP - I am getting another Poo but am worried about Eric

Hi All,

Ok so here is my problem, I have decided to get a new pup to be friends with Eric but am starting to get a little concerned about how Eric is going to react.

I haven't spent a lot of time around other poo's so just wanted to check if Eric's current behaviour is normal. Basically when he plays he can be quite boisterous, he has a habit of jumping up in bigger dogs faces and is very excitable. I have never seen him get aggresive other than this weekend when a poodle at the park decided he was going to pick up Eric's ball, Eric snapped at the poodle and it probably sounded worse than it was but it made me concerned about bringing in a new pup.

Does anyone else have any similar experiences? Or know what i could be doing to help prepare Eric for the new arrival.

He already socialises every week at doggy creche and has not had any problems there but i am a bit of a stress head and have little knowledge of dog play.

HELP please.

thanks All.

Hi - that's how our Ruby behaves, we've just introduced a new pup and they're both boisterous together! You can see that Ruby is being careful, however.
he will be fine. he might be a little off when the new arivle comes in but he will settle. get him something nice for when you first bring the puppy in.

do you know what your after as yous second cockapoo?
Betty often snaps at other dogs who come near her ball but with my dog walkers two Viszla's who she spends loads of time with she doesn't snap over her ball as she's used to them, like Eric will do when he gets used to a new puppy.

Flo is as mad as a box of frogs and jumps up at people and other dogs BUT has been superb with Remy - she seems to instinctively know how to change/moderate her behaviour with a very young puppy.

He snapped as a warning so just communicating the ball was his and the other dog should buzz off. I would say that's fine. If he had attacked or bitten that would be a different matter altogether.
My 11 year old Cocker has been great with Izzy, very gentle when playing although it took a little bit of time for her to actually like her! She still snaps sometimes at Izzy if Izzy tries to take something, like the ball she's playing with, but it's just like Mandy says, and not done aggressively.. Eric will be fine :)
Hey Guys,

Thanks all so much for your comments. I think i am just a worrier at heart and love my little Eric so much i want it all to work out and for him to have a pack mate.

i chatted with my partner last nigth and we definately decided Eric didn't attack, he didn't even make contact and we didn't intervene, he was just very sharp in his telling the other dog off for taking his ball.

He plays and shares all the equipment at his dog creche with now issues so am sure he will be fine.

We are going to take Eric t meet our new Pup (Pearl) at the farm where she is in Nantwich the day we collect her. Let the 2 of them meet on netural ground. Then take them home and keep Pearl in a play pen initially.

I want to get some lovely treats for Eric so he associates Pearl with good things but am not sure what i could give him.

Any ideas for good treats???

Thanks as usual for all your helps

If you take a look at my blog diaries http://www.mydogslife.co.uk/category/doggie-diaries/ you'll see a movie of Flo and Remy's first meeting in the entry 'Remy Comes Home' and also a video of them taken the next day in the entry 'Flo and Remy - The first two days'. I'll be doing regular weekly entries if you want to check in on the blog to see how Flo and Remy are doing :D:D:D Eric and Pearl will get along just fine :D:D:D
