Hi Mouse, and welcome. I've no idea about breeders in Southern Ireland .....I wonder if you may have to broaden your search? Cockapoos are a fantastic cross and well worth travelling for! What mix and colour are you hoping for? American/Show/Working?

Hi Karen I'm after an english cocker think show only because I think they maybe less energetic then working but I could be wrong, colour I'm thinkig chocolate or carmel but I'm not hung up on the colour. Its the personality that has me hooked. I met a guy in the park a few months back and his dog and I hit it off he was great with the kids, the dog not the guy ! but its next to impossible to find one, the breeder that he bought it from has stoped.

Hi Mouse,

Gathering information is getting a lot easier as there are now 2 active Cockapoo clubs (The Cockapoo Club of GB and The Cockapoo Owners Club) and a superb "My Dog's Life" web blog by JoJo.

I'd recommend reading through them all and checking out the galleries across the sites (including this one).

It is not always the case that the English Show Cocker produces less energetic pups - we actually mated our most wired English Working bitch to our most chilled stud Poodle "Uncle Fester" and the pups we kept (Woody II and Woodetta) are relaxed and gentle indoors and more than capable for a blast in the paddocks outside.

Visiting breeders, in our opinion, is a must - and meeting (and liking) the mums is very important.

There is no real advantage nor disadvantage in choosing to visit a Home breeder, a Hobby breeder or a Licensed breeder - so keeping your options open is good and you'll soon know if you like the dogs you meet as well as their breeder.

Happy hunting.

Hi Mouse,

In reality any puppy would not know the difference with travelling by - car; boat; bus; train nor plane.
We have puppies that only need to be in a car for no more than 30mins - as equally as we have have puppies that spend up to 10 hours in a car - or train. AND we have not heard of any issue with any puppies travelling anywhere......as long as suitable care and attention is paid to that puppy (space, comfort, toileting and water etc).

I personally would not let distance be a major contributory issue.

With today's puppy buying ability - finding the right breeder with the right credentials far out weights distance.

Hi & welcome :D
Both my girls are English show x miniature poodle, love them to bits :)
You've made a brilliant choice in breed ;) & I agree that you should be willing to travel for your perfect pup, i'm sure it will cope just fine & you'll be so pleased that you did when your little one is home :D
Good luck finding a breeder that you're happy with & a perfect pup for you! :)
