I am going to be Daisy's groomer!

Well I have decided that unless I need to go for the all over trim, I am going to groom Daisy myself :D but......it does mean I am going to be a pain in the bottom by asking lots of questions on here. I have already pestered Julia lots so I am just warning you in advance :p!

Today Daisy's nail clippers arrived! I was very worried about using them but gave Daisy her smelly tripe stick and cut away! Hurray, Sarah is not such a wuss after all! :jumping: I couldn't believe how easy it was! Phew! :)

Next job is to wait for my Tropiclean shampoo and conditioner to arrive and give her a complete bath, brush and trim! :D

I used to do my cats claws but don't think I could do the dogs as Monty's claws are black and Milly has some black ones and I can't see the quick.

But it does save you a fortune if you can groom them yourselves.

I have tried to do Monty in the past but we made a right mess so happily pay the groomer £30.

I did say to hubby I am happy to do Milly as I prefer using scissors but he seemed reluctant so that's another £30 for her too.
ooo! how awesome....Lady actually got her own mini groom ala me last night....she got her lady bits and bum trim done, and a little head trim....lol I was feeling brave with the scissors.
I cut one of Betty's too short at the grooming course this weekend..OMG
the blood.. and all over her nice clean(white fur).. in fairness the instructor
said that hers didn't really need doing so it was easily done - poor Betty.
It has put me off doing it a bit tho...
Trimmex! Everyone who clips their own dog's claws should have some in the cupboard. Stops the bleeding almost instantly.

Google for other stockists if out of stock.

Ooooh that just made my toes curl! I am scared of doing that so only cut the ends off the longest ones!

I will do my best and see how I get on. :) It might be a disaster, who knows......

Oh poor Betty. Don't worry Colin, I'm sure every professional groomer in the country has done it more than once! I know this might sound stupid but does it actually hurt the dog when this happens or is it just bleeding with no nerve endings to cause pain?
Yes it does hurt them if you cut into the 'quick' and it bleeds sadly, but it is momentary. I heard Betty's little yelp! ......but a quick cuddle and they're soon over it. :)

Apparently the more often you cut dog's toenails the more the quick recedes. Little nibbles and often! :)

I cut Blossoms claws just over a week ago (first time Ive done it to any animal). I just took the tips of the claws off as darent go any shorter. If I keep to nipping off the tips...how often do I need to do it???
Good luck Sarah...how often do you bath Daisy? As Blossom is a cream and gold she looks scruffy and dirty quicker so I have given her quick baths once a week although last week it was more thorough (very tricky trying to bath a slippery, wriggly, puppy on your own!!).xx
Either once a week or once a fortnight if I can get away with it and depending what she has rolled in! She is a smelly girl today but I am waiting for my new Tropiclean shampoo to arrive before I do her. Fingers crossed it comes tomorrow or she will just have to be done in her PAH puppy shampoo! :)

Yes, I hope it comes today as she is very whiffy and I am hoping she doesn't find the same spot to roll in this morning when I take her out!

I will let you know what it is like. :)
