Starting to look for suitable pet insurance for Mollie; but not sure really what to go for. At the mo Sainsburys insurance is looking quite good with a £7.5k limit on one illness ... a lifetime insurance I think?

Which insuarnce companies and types have you gone for and which in your opinions are best. Am I right in budgeting about £25/month on this?

I've gone with Animal Friends Insurance and I pay £9 ish a month. Have a look on Compare the Market.com as they'll list all the offers and you can compare them easily. I think that's probably the easiest way to do it,it's what I did!

We have gone with Pet plan at £23 a month, we have heard that his is one of the best plans as they do actually pay out for most things. Our 3 friends use them and have never had problems with pay outs, their dog has a skin condition and the medication is £130 a month, that is all covered. I saw lots of cheaper plans online but I wanted to go with a more expensive one that guarantees payouts, after all you get what you pay for x

We used to be with Sainsburys with our Cavvie but made the mistake of taking out a policy that only covered an illness for a year. She was on meds that cost approximately £80 per month but sadly had to be put to sleep long before the year ran out. Our vet recommended Petplan and they have been brilliant as Beau had to stay at a hospital for a week recently and the bill was just under £2900. When we arrived at the hospital they asked if we had insurance and who with. We told them Petplan and they said that's ok then as we accept direct payment from them. They then said that there weren't that many they did and that Sainsburys had changed underwriters and they had been having problems getting payment etc so may make them one of the ones that they don't take direct payment from. Petplan have been brilliant and paid the vets direct for all bills which has been great for us as would have had a problem finding almost £3000. When searching for an insurance company just make sure it is for life of an illness and a decent amount covered. Good luck :)
