Question. I give Axle Interceptor every month for heart worm prevention which is caused by mosquitos. Is it bad to not give it to him? I live in the desert and mosquitos are not here. From what I have been told mosquitos are the only way to get heart worm. So, is it a waste of money since this bug is not here?

Next, how often do your puppies eat? I feed Axle 1 cup in the morning (he eats Evo) and one cup at night, he only eats sometimes. He will nibble at it, wont eat at all, or will eat the whole serving. I put his food down at the same time everyday and for only 15 minutes but I feel bad when I put his food up and he has not eaten any of it. Do Cockapoos just not have an appetite sometimes?

no idea about hart worm, dont think iv hered of a dog in the uk with it. i would talk to your vet as they will know if dogs in your aria suffer from it. at the moment there is a big isue with lung worm in the uk whi h is contracted from slugs.

as for the eating my lot are fed once a day in the evening. my eldist Gypsy setimea turns.he.nose up at her food, she has alway been a funny eater even as a puppy where as the other will eat almost anything thing you put down to them. sometimes i think she doesnt wat bacause she hasnt had enough of a run that day but other times she has been out and atill wont eat. as long as he is eating.something i wouldnt worry. hw just knows his boxy doesnt need the rest. unlike my inca who will.eat more than her fair share the sick the whole lot up. dogs who'd have em.

I did ask the Vet but I have come to realize that they are more of a "sales" operation vs a Vet because anytime we need something they always end up getting money our of us and they try and sell us things. I know that heart worms come from mosquitos like I said earlier but there are not any here. I purchased a $250 puppy package at the vet which covers all the puppy shots and AND meds and samples he may need, well come to find out when I go in everytime (which Axle is done now) I always get a charge for something. Samples are covered, but they charge me $58. Interceptor was covered for the first month, they charged me. I have already paid $1000.00 into Axle and I seem to keep getting screwed into more money. I have done research online and it says its not crutial here but when I talk to vet all they see is money signs. I do not want to put my dog into jeapordy but I do not want to buy these monthy meds for no reason at all since it costs ya know :(

We use Sentinal for worms and flea control.( It has interceptor in it) We live on the coast, so theres lost of mosquitos and fleas. Fleas can also cause other types of worms too, and Interceptor helps protect against those other worms. So maybe thats why the vet gives it to you? If you have fleas in your area then I would get a flea protection rather then the interceptor, but most flea meds. are for older pups.
Our dog is older, but she likes to nibble on her food thru out the whole day, so i leave it out. Sometimes she won't eat at all until after a good walk!
EVO is a good food for adult, active dogs. But a high protien, diet is not good for a puppy!! I would mix the food 50/50 with a puppy formula dry food, or with some plain cooked rice,or potatoes.
If you notice your pup is not eating, seems tired alot, has vomiting or diarrhea, then it could be from too much protien.

Im sure that we have fleas here but I have not seen any or known anyone here to have them. Its so hot and dry here, we have to worry about rattlesnakes more then fleas and mosquitos.

He eats when he wants to. lol Sometimes he will eat his whole bowl, others not. We got him Evo red meats small bites. He loves it, he is just a picky eater. Or, maybe he is just not that hungry sometimes. I have not noticed anything unusual about him since switching. So far so good! :) Thank you though for your advice!

Bailey is now 6 months old & we've been feeding him twice a day - 1/2 cup of Blue Buffalo Dry chicken (for pups) add a drop of water to give it extra flavor. Sometimes Bailey licks the bowl clean and other times he leaves some. There are times I have to put a few knibbles in my hand to get him to start eating.

As for the heartworm meds - we live in NJ and were told to give Bailey a heartworm pill every month - however, I purchased them from PetCareRx and saved a lot of money. My vet also recommended that Bailey take Comfortis (pill) once a month for fleas, but the script was for puppies 5 -10 lbs; vet wanted to give him a mild dose.
I know I've told you this before, but buying your meds from PetCareRx will save you so much money.

I would love to buy from PetCareRx but my vet does not accept that nor any vet in town. I already ordered from there and got it denyed. I am pretty upset about this because I would have saved so much money.

Sorry, I know this is a little late, but I give jersey interceptor too. It protects against other worms too, I think hookworms, roundworms and one other, so I would keep giving it to him. Its unsafe not to have them on any parasite protection, so I would stick with it. :)
