I have seen bowls for sale that cause dogs to eat their food more slowly. I am just wondering why is this? Is it harmful if they gobble down their kibble really quickly?

Gisgo loves his BH and eats the whole lot down in a very short space of time. I am mostly relieved that he does not seem to be a fussy eater at all.....but beginning to wonder if I need to take steps to slow him down at all?

thanks for any information.

Scamp ate puppy kibble really quickly but when we moved onto adult he slowed down as the pieces were bigger ! He is a greedy poo though and would probably eat and eat if we let him !
In comparison Rascal is a dainty eater, slower, has more table manners ! :D

Dogs eating quickly isn't necessarily a bad thing - The bowls are for dogs that suffer side effects of quick eating.

Vommiting is one - upset tummy's sometimes - Very bad and smelly wind (I speak from personal experience with my beagle) - among others.

The bowls are also useful to try to slow down your dogs need to gulp down any food presented - e.g. food dropped on a floor etc.

I use one of these bowls that make eating more challenging for my beagle (recommended by the vet when her nose was on the receiving end of a Mollie Fart....) - her wind has dramatically improved and her attitude towards food is much better now - I recommend the bowls but only if the dogs gulping down of food is causing problems elsewhere.
