Hi all,

I am yet to be a cockapoo owner, but hope to be one in the near future:D! We (myself and my Husband) have just started looking at breeders. I never knew how much of a minefield all of this puppy searching would be. It is very hard trying to decide which type to go for, one thing for sure is we have decided on solid black. We prefer english cross but are stuck between Show/working!

I have already had some great advice from JoJo www.mydogslife.co.uk, she was incredibly helpful.

We live in Watford, and there doesn't seem to be any breeders local to us to meet. We are prepared to travel and have already spoken to some breeders quite some distance away and arranged to meet one at New Year. We aren't ready to get a puppy until February/March .

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi & welcome! :)
Wow you must be so excited :D
So a solid black english cocker cross...
You are probably best off deciding whether you would prefer working/show before looking in to breeders as most breeders breed different types of crosses.
Also would you want a toy or miniature poodle cross?
There are a few good breeders who will let you meet up to chat or who will talk to you over the phone & answer any questions you may have.
The larger breeders are generally happy to discuss with prospective buyers & give information, such as; Anzil, Jukes Doodles, Jandaz. I'm sure they'd be happy to help talk through what would be best for you (cross wise) & explain any differences that CAN be found, it isn't always clear that working/show cocker crosses will be different, but they could be.

Good luck!

Thanks for all your repsonses.

We are looking at getting a male, solid black, I think our preference is english show/mini poodle but would also consider english working/mini poodle.

Karen, very excited to hear you are in Watford. I live in Oxhey Village right next to the fields, have only seen one cockpoo being walked over there since moving here 18 months ago! I seem to have become slightly obsessed, everytime we go for a walk I am looking out for one! Would love to meet up at some point, we might be able to make it on Sunday I will check with my Husband.

Hi Anna,

I live in St. Albans so let me know when you get the pup! I have working x miniature and she is gorgeous. I had an email today from someone I contacted on breederonline who has puppies available in January? I will need to look up where they were though. We went to Shropshire for ours. Travel isn't important when you get the right one!

Good luck!

Jane.

Hi Jane,

Nice to hear that there are other owners locally to me. As soon as we get a pup I will let you know.

I have been contacted today by a breeder who has a litter of american cocker/mini poodle cross available beginning of Jan which might be a little early for us. Our preference was to go for a english cross as they seem to be slightly bigger, I hope i'm right in what i'm saying, it all gets a bit confussing !

Thanks JoJo,

Just had a look at the coat catalogue and it was very helpful. Defiantly want and English mix, we were both certain on solid black but I have to say I also love red.

Have been in touch with a few more breeders today and hoping to get some positive responses. :)

Hi Karen,

Just realised you feature on mydogslife, have read all your blogs and they are great.

Unfortunately we won't be able to make it on Sunday as my husband reminded me that we are out for Lunch for my Brother's birthday!:( oops I forgot all about it, must be getting too carried away with my puppy search.

Thank you so much for the kind invite and I do hope to meet you soon.

I have contacted a few more breeders today so fingers crossed.

Hi Anna

My name is Turi. Welcome to the forum!

I am getting my first Cockapoo from Broadreach Dogs - the breeder Anne has mated her black and white English Cocker from working lines to an apricot Miniature Poodle. She is hoping for a litter of apricots and blacks. Marcus, my boyfriend, and I have put our name down for an apricot boy! The pups are due at the end of December and so would be ready to take home at the end of February. Anne does all the necessary health checks and her pups are whelped inside. There are two people that I know of on here that have one of her pups - do a search for Stevie or Mia's Mummy. Anne is based in Cambridge so think it would only be an hour or so for you?

Hope this helps!

Hi Turi,

thanks for your message. I too have been in contact with Anne and she has said she has a litter due end of December. She's not sure if she will have any black but to be honest we would also consider Apricot. We were looking at the coat colours again last night and we are very torn.

I am started to get very excited, you must be too!
