Congrats on your new baby!!! They're so precious! :)

We had a 2 1/2 hour trip back with our puppy. I tried to use the crate (our breeder didn't crate train...learned a big lesson there!) but she was so unhappy. So I held her and then she wanted to get on the floor, so she slept on the floor almost the entire way!

She's beautiful, btw! :)

you will probably end up with her on you lap most of the time or with her in the footwell of the car. dont worry she will probably cry a little but she wont know whats going on. she will relax though.

How exciting that there is two members going to have siblings of ours on here ! She is going to be called Evee, named by my dear daughter, and she will be a replacement for our past lovely Dalmation dog Otto.

I wanted another dog but smaller than the Dalmation, with a lovable nature, happy go lucky and that liked a bit of exercise, after lots of looking I decided that this would be a great breed for us as we live in the countryside near Whitby.

Just one question when should they have there first hair cuts ?

It's a matter of preference, as to whether you like the shaggy look or not. Those of us who do seem to manage to get to about 8 months before we give in and get the first cut, but some do it earlier. The adult coat comes in about 8 months and then they are really hard to manage.

once you hit 7-8 months old the coat becomes harder to manege (some exseption) puppy coat is lovely and easy to brush but as the adult coat comes in thicker nto will apear overnight, but its up to you. you can book them in for baths and face trims so they get used to it. its important thet you get them used to their feet being touched as that is one of the mane isues groomers find with dogs.

Welcome Northern Star! Nice pic. ;)

Some grooming should be done early, even if it's just a bath/blow dry and nail trim. This way the dog will be more used to it later in life. The first groom can be anywhere from 3 months up to about a year. Depending on your pups fur type, with just a little brushing you could maintain months upon months of coat, it's your own choice of of course. If her coat is more tight though, it might need trimming pretty early to avoid matting.

my nell is from sylml, how nice that there are litter mates owners all on here. if your pups are anything like nell in temprement and general cuteness then i know they will be amazing little dogs, she is just gorgeous!

i like about an hour and 15 mins away (alot less time i know!) but she was fine on the way home, she sat in a little bed on my knee and snuggled all the way home, and kept trying to crawl up to my fACE to lick it and chew on my hair, no accidents and she wasnt car sick or anything. after the initial half hour when we first got in the car, she slept for the rest of the time until we disturbed her to introduce her to people

I think those first few hours, starting with the car trip, are really useful for bonding. I've found that by quietly cuddling for that time, and when you get home, the pup seems to transfer from his mum to you straight away, accepting you as his new mum with less trauma.

Aaw! She is gorgeous! Lots of little red/apricot pups with white patches on here!! :)

I picked up my puppy on Sunday and we had a 2 and a half hour journey (excluding an hour stop at a pet shop on the way as we weren't prepared at all!). I bought a carry thing that she HATED and she just slept on my lap the whole way back. No little accidents at all. Although she hadn't been fed yet - so might be worth asking the breeder not to feed her beforehand to avoid accidents or travel sickness.

I bet you're excited! I am completely smitten already. She's settled into such an amazing routine. We've had her home for 5 days now and we've had no whining at night, she can sit on command, fetches and gives her little toy and asks to go outside to go to the loo (apart from at night when she goes on the paper). We take it in turns to play during the day or she sleeps on my lap or on my feet while I do my work.

Hope it all goes well! EXCITING!!!!!!!

Wow Mandy! Her fur lightened up loads didn't it!! That's really interesting. Our apricot pup looks a bit lighter already (hubby said I was imagining it!! But maybe I'm not!!). Does she still have her little lighter patches on her face?

Hi everyone thanks for all the replys, well we picked her up and she spent half the journey in the crate and the other on my daughters knee and everything was fine.

We have had Eevee for a week now, tryed leaving her downstairs in the crate but just kept crying so moved it to the side of the bed and she seems a lot more settled now. Last night she did 1130 until 530 so we are getting there with going through the night.

she does not seems to eat loads a table spoon of dried food four times a day I would say, what are all the others eating ?

Toilet training, we have a few accidents on the mat at the door, we have been taking her out and saying hurry up and she does her business each time but if the door is locked and we do not notice her she wees on the mat ? hopefully maybe she will start to bark at me or something.

We have fallen in love with her already and cannot think of life without her, a few more trips in the car and she has been great .
