I have spent ages with a tape measure in the boot of my car trying to get a double dog crate to accomodate Hattie and Minton side by side but seperate. A comment by my dear departed Dad springs to mind when I had my terriers as puppies, he said if you come home to a belching dog and a pile of bones you will know what has happened! He was joking!. Think I now have a solution so will see when crate delivered Hattie will have to shove up a bit, pity as I have quite a large car but somehow only end up with two useable seats! Just hope I have room for the shopping!

P.S. When I had to borrow an Audi A6 very large estate I still had to dismantle the entire boot and lower the back seats to get Hatties crate in. Now have Audi Q3 which will do for now as long as Minton is the same size as Hattie!

Yes this is a worry my cars small,if i got poo number 2 i would have to buy a new car first!!

Ive tryed Buddy in the back with no crate ....nightmare! its ok when im driving but i couldnt leave him if say i had to nip in anywhere he was scratching to get out.

Have you had to have the crate made to fit?

I have just said goodbye to my dearly beloved Volvo C70 convertible in favour of a Volvo XC60 ( 4 x 4 thingy)..as with two dogs it was just not practical. I tried
both dogs in one crate when taking them to the Ashridge meet this weekend and it was perfect but not sure I am going to be able to get both of them in it once Ted gets bigger....will have to think of a plan B also..

What about one of them using a seatbelt clip to hold them in place? You could still have one crate in there.
Nice idea but Hattie does not sit still unless she wants to, getting her walking harness on is a bit like trying one on an octapus! Happier with them in crates where they can get up turn around and stretch if they wish also offers some protection in an accident situation. Thanks though for the thought nothing is ever off limits!

There are loads of hatchback friendly crates on the internet, apparently it may be illegal to have an unrestrained dog in a car ( not sure need to research that!) I used to have my Cairn free on the back of my Fiesta with the seats down but that was 16yrs ago and things have moved on a bit.

Bit nervous of leaving both in same crate! Don't want to arrive back to a pile of bones and a belching dog!!

Hi Sue We've been having exactly this conversation today as not only will we eventually have two poos, but I'd like to offer dog walking to two others as well. I have my late dad's old hatchback, which we could convert the boot and rear seats into one big dog space, like a small van as hubby is not keen on me using his 4x4 for a pack of muddy dogs! We have a hatchback friendly crate in each car but they are not big enough for two dogs.

I was admiring your car on Saturday, very nice. Shame about the convertable, but I'm a 4x4 fan.:)

My boot is a funny shape so the only one that would fit is a soft crate (Buddys fine in it but hes ripped one side but suppose ive had it for nearly a year).
None of my friends have crates in their cars ? suppose if you have something seperateing the boot from the car its fine?
I also brought a harness seatbelt when i first got him....never used it hes usually so mucky after a walk i dont think id want him on my seats in that state.

I did look at the Trixe crate but read some negative reviews. Have ordered one from Dog Health 36 wide two front doors one rear escape hatch with divider. Would have had it today but was out so the nice man from FedEx took it away! Hope to try again tomorrow, let's hope it fits! Thank you for taking the time to post the link much appreciated.

Mr FedEx came back again with my crate. Well pleased fits in the boot perfectly can even put the back seats up so can use for shopping instead of boot. Car has nifty drop down bit in back seat (for my skis don't you know!) so Hattie still has a window to see me. Downside with divider space is bit restricted but hopefully once I know they get on (please God) I will not use this. Did intend to post photo but weather not good will do if it improves. Overall good crate for around £55 inc delivery. Thank you for all your ideas if Minton grows into a giant will have to have a rethink!
