lol puppies can sometimes take a day or too to settle in. to much going on, new people new smells, no mum or rest of the litter.

i dont think any of my girls ate the first night home. what food did the breeder send you home with.

i would worry too much, if your pup isnt drinking at all tommorro it might e a good idea to call the vets just to ask their opinion.

Hi & welcome!
I'm sure it's just a case of puppy being in a new environment & having to get used to it, he will eat when he's hungry he won't let himself starve, maybe try to keep the cat food out of reach though (i've heard either dog or cat food is harmful to one of the others - I just don't know which way round it is though but I think it's dogs that shouldn't eat cat food?) Although don't quote me! Haha :)

Yes Louis is a good name.

Ypur puppy will take a few days to settle. When I got Daisy it took about 10 days for us to see the real her. She was very quiet and then suddenly her cheeky side emerged and we actually got to see her proper personality. Some dog s will settle quicker than others and a younger puppy will probably just take a couple of days to settle.

Look forward to the photos :)

Beta Puppy, but he doesnt seem to like this. Keeps eating the cat food!!!
Hope you don't mind me saying hun but Beta is ok but there are much better foods out there for him. I made that mistake as one of mine was on that for a while ( as an adult) I was told there are better foods out there.

If you do change do it gradually so add a bit of new a little bit at a time taking away the old till he is on the new stuff- do it over a week.

If you wish to feed a dry kibble I would recommend the one I use which is Barking Heads.

Have a look on www.dogfoodanalysis.com it doesn't have all the foods but a some and it tells you the good and the bad that's in them.

When they are with their litter mates the competition of getting food makes them eat. Also they have been through a tremendous life change and everything is new. They will eat when hungry but I found Hattie preferred a wet food ( I use wainwrights from pets at home, high meat content no fillers produces small firm poos!) It will take a few days to settle down.

I agree, if he is willing to eat the cat food then he is probably just taking time to settle in- too much to take in and not enough time to eat!! If he is bright and well, weeing/pooing ok i would give him a couple of days. Just offer food but don't overface.

Haha Laura- cat food is quite high in calories compared to most dog foods so can cause weight gain so dogs eating cat food isn't ideal. You will be thinking of cats not being able to live on dog food- they can eat it occasionally but cats need Taurine in their diet which dog food doesn't offer so they can't eat it long-term without problems arising. Bit of useless info there for you :D
