i need help with Ollie he is 17months old had his castration op a month ago and seems to have changed personality or is it his age ? He has started chewing shoes again pinching them when visitors leave them at the door ,pinched my birkenstocks this morning out of the cupboard . he is very food orientated and wants it all the time , he seems to be more disobedient and has his zoomers again (mad half hour ) follows me everywhere and generally dosnt relax . hes tapping the door to go ot and when we get up he dosnt want to go out and he has developed a strange habit of pawing the lounge door quite agressivley as he would when he wants to go out :confused::confused::confused:

i just dont know what to do ,the first thing im thinking about is getting his chuffing crate out again but i know he wont be happy .

Just keep an eye on the appetite thing. One of my terriers suddenly developed a ravenous appetite and it turned out she had developed Cushings syndrome. She was quite elderly but it can effect dogs of any age. I did not pick up on it straight away as I just thought she was getting senile! Check with your vet a simple blood test will confirm and early treatment will lead to a good life expectancy. Probably nothing to worry about but always worth a check.

I have no knowledge of castrations, sorry. But just thinking that a month is not that long after an operation. Maybe he's just out of sorts and it will pass.

I'm sure someone will have more knowledge on here and advise.

Hi I only have experience of male GSDs but the theory should be the same. Over fussing including post op may make the dog think they come first in the family pack, therefore he can do what he likes. Back to basics, remind him who is boss and if necessary get the crate out.

Balls or no balls they will try and assert their dominance, I presume this is the same for most male dogs. Zeus deliberately wee'd in front of me and pushed my hubby against the wall. We double teamed him and he lost!!

His hormones are still settling so back to some puppy behaviour may be expected. Again back to routine including feeding.

Hope this helps.
