Puppy walks

How much walking do you guys do or did with your younger pups? Dudley has been going out for a week now and I'm aware at a young age (he's 13 weeks) I shouldn't over exercise him, but its hard as it takes about half an hour just to walk him around the block, if we go to the park like we did today and yesterday morning its 10 mins ish there then we walk along a dog walk path for 10-15 mins (off lead) then let him run free on the playing fields if pretty empty for another 10 mins before coming home - I'm worrying its maybe too much?

Your puppy will tell you if its too much. dont worry. the exorsize rule is more for larger breeds but even that depends on the dog its self. Too little can cause growing pains becaus the ligaments arent being stretched enough.

so just let your pup tell you how far he can go.
I agree Pushca loves the park and the walk to it and would never get tired. I used to worry as someone said only 10 mins per week of age. She had much more than that and is fine
I think I read somewhere that it is more to do with the joints developing and that they could have problems later that wouldn't be obvious for a few years, but maybe that was larger dogs - it is a shame because on a day like this - nothing planned and dry weather - I could walk for hours, guess i'll save those walks for a while. Energy wise Dudley has had no problems with the walks we are doing, think he'd go for much longer but I guess i'll just stick to what i'm doing for now though, glad you don't think its too much.
When I took Biscuit for a vet check at 24 weeks the vet said to ignore the rule from then on and just walk for as long as we liked and said it generally applied to the larger breeds. I think what you are doing now sounds about right and I wouldn't do any less as you are walking on grass too and he could equally just run around like that in the garden. I would be more reluctant to do long walks on pavement but I think off lead in the park is just fine.

That would actually be quite a lot! think I read 5 mins for each month until 6 months old, thats what I was worrying about, but think that must be just large dogs going by your replies.
I don't know much about dogs in general (I've never owned one before Scarlett) but in my experience, Scarlett has always let me know when she has had enough. She can usually go for a really long time, but if it is extra hot out she tires a little more easily. She just had her spay almost 2 weeks ago, and her first walk was a pretty short one. I planned on it being a short walk anyway, but she let me know that it was all she could handle at that time.
