Well . . . I hope this does not turn into another novel!!! We had the worst experience of our (my) life followed by the greatest!!! The movers were supposed to be at my house Friday the 16th at 8am . . I was calling my contact person at noon . . got a call they would be there around 4pm . . not a good start . . it was pouring rain (as it has been for the past 10 weeks ... unprecidented amount of rain for our area). I could go on all day . . but it was very unprofessional . . the truck was to small (26 ft) and was filled to max capacity at midnight . . another driver was called and his truck was full also??? So the load was shifted and the remainder of our household goods were STUFFED into the back of the 2nd truck. Damage to doorjams . . vinyl flooring in laundry room torn in 3 places due to DRAGGING instead of lifting washer on dolly . . dings in doors . . scraps on walls . .etc etc. I was in tears as they were inexperienced as movers . . had been on the road 18 days and just wanted to HURRY and get home!! I was unable to watch all 6 of them as they were in different rooms (the lead packer called around our area on CRAIGS LIST for help . . 4 other guys responded that looked like street bums (sorry but true) in tennis shoes and quite inexperienced!! It was a nightmare as damage was done by the time I saw things . . I did ask the lead mover to send 2 of the bumbling teenage inexperienced movers home after I noticed the damage. We finished at 2am with my daughter, her husband and myself assisting!!! The driver had grabbed a pillow and gone to an empty room as he "Had not slept in 2 days!!!" OMG . . I'm thinking . . sooooo hes leaving here and driving 150 miles to place my worldly goods in storage . . was imagining what the offloading must have been like??? On TOP of all this we will be charged for the second truck pick up as they said we were "well over" our alloted square foot space??? So our total went from $3000 to $5600!!! And bearing in mind I had packed 56 boxes myself . . . considered a "partial pack" That is the VERY short of it . . I left the house damaged and unvaccumed . . remnents of junk everywhere as I had to catch 3 hrs sleep to pick up Freddy on the interstate at a transportation point he had flown into the next morning!! We left directly from there and hit the road for Ohio.
I called my Real Estate Agent and gave her the bad news as she will now be responsible for correcting the damages in 1 week as next Friday is closing day and the buyers have to inspect the home before the contract is signed. Then my precious daughter went in the next day and vacuumed, wiped basebords and cleaned out the leftover junk. PRAYING the repairs will be done in time and the buyers will be satisfied or we will be in deep do do!!
NOW THE GOOD PART!!! We planned on driving half way (about 450 miles) and give the poos a break . . stopping for the night and then finishing the trip. They did BRILLIANT!!!! I had folded down the back seats and put their favorite bed covers down with toys and a fav big pillow bed . . along with all my luggage . . and their box of food . . water . . bowls . .treats etc. We stopped every 1.5 to 2 hrs for pee and poo breaks and a short walk . . they were doing so very well we just kept driving and actually did the entire 9.5 hr trip in one day!! I could not have asked for a better trip .... dont know if they were especially calm because Freddy was now back in the picture and they were happy and relaxed or what . . but it was such a treat after a horrible move day!!! We are all here in Ohio now in an Extended stay Studio (VERY small) but Sami and Carley are doing wonderful . . the weather is to DIE for . . NO RAIN!!!! 78 degrees . . sunny . . tons of walking areas around the studio with lots of beautiful grass. We have already been on 5-6 walks and they act like they are in heaven!! We will be here for about 30 days until our new home is ready as owners are still on site waiting for their condominium to be completed. SORRY so long, but just had to explain some of the beginning for you to understand how wonderful the ending has been so far!!! Fingers crossed for an uneventful closing this Friday, then a ton will be off our shoulders. God is Good!!
