My routine lately has been pick up Mia from school and we take Buddy for a walk in the field in the village so today the rain had stopped so off we went after school.
We saw a man we see alot and his two puppies and got talking while Buddy played anyway he turned round half way and went home, the field is quite open so you can see if anyone is around walking thier dog and we were alone.

We carried on round in a loop and on the way back Mia saw some swans in the canal and stopped to look Buddy ran off over a little bridge that takes you to a different entrance to the field so i walked off to get him.By the time i got to Buddy i turned round to shout to Mia hurry up when i looked round there was a man walking in the same direction as us (strange as id not spotted him before) anyway as i looked back he stopped and kind of jumped towards the trees as if to hide??He also didnt seem to have a dog which made me suspicious i scremed at Mia and she ran towards me Buddy by this time had ran ahead so i told Mia to run with me to catch Buddy.

I looked around again and the man had gone across the bridge.

We walked back to the car and i dont know why but i thought im going to drive down to the other entrance to see if i can see who this person was ,as we drove passed i saw him and i was right he had no dog with him,he was about 35ish bald he didnt have a car near the entrance and was walking towards the village so he may live there??

Maybe im being paranoid but he made me feel very uncomfortable and why did he stop walking when i turned round.

Anyway i wont be walking there for a while.

I agree, report it. Scary I'm sure there's some weird people out there!!!
I tried but the local cop station shuts at 4 !!!! ,im going to phone tomorrow .
I had an incident a couple of months ago where i met a suspicious individual, he made my skin crawl - i picked Dexter up and ran so quick i thought my wellies were on fire, unfortunately on the sunday someone had gone missing up at the area and police cars were everywhere so i had to report the man (he might have just been out on his own walking but he wasn't right) - you just really never know!!!!!!! Stay safe everyone even in the day x
Donna, how scary! I would definitely report it and try to give a description of the man. If it's innocent then no harm done anyway. You never know though and I think we all need to be wary of strangers in remoter places as sadly we all know too well that there are some sick and nasty people out there. I always carry my mobile and a whistle. I feel really vulnerable when waking with the kids too so I tend to stick to busier places when they are with me.
Sounds terrifying to me!! is there a neighborhood watch kind of thing in your community that you could talk to to see if anyone else has had issues with anyone at all....the freaky part was that he hid....that is scarry
i agree
report it and if its innocent then that person wont mind......after all its all about staying safe!!!!!!!

also carrying awhistle is a very good idea,,,,
be safe stay safe

and always bring your cell phone with you!
Derek and I were just talking about this kind of stuff last night as he took Cara out about 7pm. I won't walk her on my own in the dark you just don't know whose out there. Will get myself a whistle too.

I'm with the rest definitely report it. The man had no reason to hide when you saw him. Doing this could save someone injury or worse.

Stay safe everyone xx
Donna that is well scary! Yes i wouldnt want to walk there again for a while...shame:( Its the hiding which was the scary bit to me,i would definately report it,you never know he could have been a right weirdo or completely harmless, worth it though.Carry a whistle or a megaphone in future! lol Made me think of all the walks i do,they are usually in totally isolated fields, woods or public footpaths, and i hardly ever see anybody,im nearly always with my mum on these walks but next time i go by myself im going to be more aware..... :) x
when myself and my brother Haig were wee my mum got us whistle to wair when we were out and told us to blow thing if someone tried to come near us or if we got lost.

i have don't the same thing with my youngest brother Innes if i have him on my own and I'm out with the dogs and need him to stand outside the wee shop with the dogs, i give him my recall whistle.

their are so many creepy people about, a group of Friend when to the beach one of them as 2 girls (at the time they were both primary school or one was about to start high school) the kids had their swimming costumes on under their cloths so they took them off and left them on the dry bit of the beach so they could swim.
a random guy was hanging about but they didn't think too much of him till he grabbed the kids cloths and ran off. two of the guys chased after him and he dropped the cloths and ran off. they left shortly after that as it spoiled the day and creeped everyone out. `

defiantly report it, you never know, it could make them take another report more seriously.

Good ideas about the whistle i had my phone with me but the village is known for bad reception.I thought the stopping and hiding bit was weird also i think thats what made me think this isnt right.

HI Donna, get a personnal alarm, they are really loud and a good deterant. Keep meaning to say Buddy is so gorgeous - love his colouring x
Hi Donna - weirdo alert! I would report him - the police may send someone to the area to take a look! I live in a remote village and we had a weirdo staring at my house [ we have solid electric gates but I was still terrified] Rang all the people around and was told that he has been investigated before - he visited his father in the village occasionally and goes out wandering when he is high on drugs - he was just stoned!
I am always wary on walks especially as I never usually see another person!
Keep Mia safe too - he could have wanted to flash her but then saw you!
I too will carry mobile phone torch whistle and big stick!

If you talk to your local police station and ou should be able to get a rape alarm. Sounds drastic but they're a great thing to have, they make a HECK of a noise if set off And some even have a pepper spray on them. When I wa at uni I had one, on a night out a guy tried I grab me on my way home, I let the alarm off and the guy legged it!

i dont think ur alowed to carry pepperspray in this contry. but the alarm is a good idea i have one somewere but never take it with me as its big, might look onto a smaller one.

my mum was attacked whsn she was hounger than me out walking the family dog right next to the high school, i walk past to spot if im walking to my pappas house. the guy was just talking to her as tgey were walking mum turnd round to check that Hidie the dog was still there and he grabbed her pulling into the bushes. she says she doesnt know how, but she got away lifted the dog and ran home.

so my mum tends to worrh about me if im out longer than normal with the dogs.

Things like this are even more worrying when you have a child with you aren't they.

As you say, he may well just have been a man going for a walk but unfortunatey in todays society simple things like that can be viewed as suspicious and I don't blame you for being worried.

I think mentioning it to the Police that you were worried isn't a bad idea - at the very least they can give you some suggestions about how to stay safe etc.

As someone mentioned 'go with your gut'. If you feel unsafe just don't do it.
We aren't allowed to carry pepper spray in Canada either...but you are allowed to carry "dog Spray" essentially it is the exact same thing...do they have that there? it isn't legal to use it on a human....unless in self defence...I used to sell it at an outdoor store that I worked at....no one ever bought it to fight off a dog.....only humans.
