While attending a poetry forum a few years ago, I found myself bored nearly to tears by the pedantic drivel spewing forth all around me. As I glance about the room in search of an exit, I came across another individual doing the same. Though neither of us were able to successfully manage our escape that afternoon, we were able to add a new acquaintance to our mobiles. Through the ensuing years we bumped into one another finding that we generally ended such serendipitous encounters holding cool cups of coffee and a smile.

Three months ago, another such encounter occurred. This time in a hospital waiting room. It was at that time that I informed my acquaintance that, "If you need anything, call; I will be happy to help in any way needed.". I walked away full of charcoal colored thoughts and a vague notion that I may be driving someone to chemo treatments in the near future. As it turned out, I became the owner of a four year old cockapoo that spoke a language that was not part of my repertoire.

Though sharing my life with a pet was not part of my plan for this year, I have enjoyed having this particular one in my world. He is well behaved, intelligent, goofy and now over his sorrow. I am grateful for the trust of the acquaintance who gave me such a friend as Thatcher.

Hello Kate - that is such a lovely story and the acquaintance obviously felt you would be a good companion and carer for Thatcher. Would love to see photos of him :)

Such a bitter-sweet story. Lucky Thatcher to have found such a good place to reside. It would be lovely to see a picture.

Allytoe,

Thank you for the complement.
Yes, it has been an odd confluence of emotion.
However, I believe you will agree with me that he appears to be at home in his new surroundings.
Again, thank you for your comments.

Jedicrazy,

Thanks for the welcome.
Yes, I do have some photos which highlight Thatcher's need of a haircut
and prove his affinity for popping tennis balls which I will post below.

Again, thanks for the welcome.

Enjoy,

Kate

MillieDog,

Thank you for the complement on Thatcher's appearance.
I have been thinking him a mess and have been searching for a trustworthy groomer.
Point of fact: after bathing him last night, I trimmed his ears and whiskers (or eyebrows) a bit so that he might see with added clarity & so that I might see him see me. :)
Again thank you much.

Yes, I agree they are wonderful animals.
Though he may have come through sorrowful circumstances,
I have enjoyed welcoming a cockapoo into my home once again.
Thatcher is a joy.
