We collect our puppy poo in 5 days!! I know every single pup is different but I just wondered what your pup was like during those first few hours of bringing them home?

Our westie (now a frail 15 and living with my parents) was amazing. I remember him going straight out in our garden, playing ball with us for ages and then taking himself indoors and found his bed all on his own. But I know this isn't the usual response...

Our little poo guy is so quiet and laid back on our visits. This may mean he's really timid when he gets to our home. Or takes it all in his stride.

It would be great to hear your experiences! And any tips are welcomed x

Lady was very timid when we first brought her home. The weather was really bad, I was driving and hubby was afraid of dogs, so all that combined she was in a crate in the car for the jorney home....I wish she hadn't been, but it was the safest.
When we got her in the house she would not come out of her crate, we all sat on the floor ( my cousin lived with us then) and were quiet and calm and waited for her to come out. we waited about 30 minutes, she would not budge. so I took the lid off the crate, and she stayed to the back corner, so I picked her up and held her for a few minutes. Put her back down and she explored the main floor of the house.

Polly was trembling and very nervous when she first came home. She lay on my mother's legs and mum stroked her and spoke to her in a soothing voice for about an hour. She then went out into the garden with the children and they played with her for a while which she seemed to really enjoy. It was quite late in the day - she didn't want anything to eat but did drink a little. I think we just put her in her bed in her crate and said night night. And that was it until the following morning. I do remember that I didn't sleep a wink that night!

Only just over two weeks ago but it seems like a life time!

What an exciting time this is for you with 5 days to go, so full of anticipation :)

Hi
I have just collected my puppy Monty. He had a 30 minute journey home along a busy motorway. He lay on my lap and fell asleep, I just kept on stroking him and chatting to my sister-in-law who drove us.

We sat on the kitchen floor with him and he had a play, a little bit of food and then wee'd on the floor (twice).

He is now asleep in his litter tray on his puppy pad!

I am very much in love with my new poo!

Aww thanks for the stories. I wonder if Dougie will be scared at first. 5 days to find out!! :) sooooooo excited.

How exciting that you've just brought Monty home! Can't wait to see some piccies.

And have fun collecting Pepper!

Wish I didn't still have 5 days. Currently doing some online puppy shopping.

Oh I so envy you!
Love that first day - it is so special (and for once I was the best mum in the world!!)
Kiki yipped in the car for about 20 mins and then slept on Duncan's knee for 40 minutes.
It was pouring with rain and poor pup was not keen on the garden, but we kept popping her out and eventually she did what she needed to do.
Little puppies sleep a lot and they love to be cuddled... but we did put her to bed in the kitchen and shut the door while we were eating etc so that she got a proper chance to rest and family members stopped squabbling over whose turn it was to cuddle the puppy.
Kiki was hungry for her tea
and when it was bed time she snuggled in her bed and slept through from 10 until 4 when she squeaked to be let out... then went back to sleep until 7.
Lovely, lovely day - enjoy your new puppy day!!

Max came home in the car on my lap. We introduced him to Mandy in the garden and he just followed her everywhere. He ate, weed in the garden and slept. The first night we put him in his bed in the utility room and with puppy pads on the floor. When I opened the door the next morning he was snuggled up with Mandy. It's been fine ever since. Enjoy your first few days. Routine sets in mega fast!

Good luck with Dougie when you bring him home! Jasper is 3 months now and was really chilled out when we brought him home, he just cuddled and cuddled! He settled well in his crate but woke frequently to go out to the toilet. Some people choose pads but we opted to let him out. We've only had the occasion wee on his vet bed and he doesn't wake at all in the night now and will sleep till around 7ish! He has always loved snuggling up with me on the sofa in the evening but has taken to going in his crate and snuggling up in his cosy bed! I suppose its good hes content to be by himself but I do miss my cuddles! Make the most of all the cuddles, they grow up so fast. just a tip, jasper has a super fleecy blanket he came home in all snuggled up, we have found that wherever the blanket is he seems to settle really contently, it seems to give him comfort, like a babies blankie x

Thanks for the stories! Its been a loooong time since I have been around a puppy. We will probably getting ours at the end of Feb. Just found out the "bitch" Tia is in heat. So breeding will start soon.

Considering we have about an hour and 45 minute ride down and back thinking of stopping halfway and switching drivers to let hubby hold the puppy... Only fair.. :D

Do any of you have other animals like cats? Where the puppy had adjust to another animal in the house?

Oscar came home in the car standing on my wife's lap looking out the window. When we got home he immediately explored his new surroundings, dragged his new toys out of his box and tore one of them to shreds. From the start he hated being cuddled and it is only now at nearly five months old that he will allow to be picked up and cuddled.
He did lots of tearing around until bed time and then went into his cage around 10pm and slept without a peep until morning. He has slept through all night ever since and is a bundle of fun and energy all day. Love him to bits.

me and the wife went out the day after we put our buffy down from cushing disease.and we were not going to get any thing just look, well we went to the same place that we got buffy 11 years ago and we were talking to the girls there and she that she didn't have any cockers, but she had a very nice cockapoo,i said what the heck is that
so my wife held he in her arms she was only 8 weeks old.and the rest is history, i held her all the way home and she sleep most of the way it was maybe 1/2 hour.when we got home she sleep on the floor for a pritty long time, then she walked all around sniffing every thing ,she probably smelled my buffy, and to my surprise we fed her a little of the food we got from the girl and she ate it,then i had to run out to the store to get her a bed and all the other little things we needed,it was a very exciting day ,
