Thinking about getting a Cockerpoo

1689 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  wilfiboy
Hi everybody - currently have a very lively Wire Haired (3 year old) Fox Terrier - who lives alongside our 15 year old mini schnauzer. She tends to bully him sometimes and we have to be a bit watchful. Steering away from getting another terrier next time - and fell in love with a Cockerpoo in town yesterday. As not a registered breed at Kennel Club - would love to know the best way to get one (and not from a puppy farm).

Any advice greatly appreciated. P.S Won't be getting one while our old man schnauzer is still with us as wouldn't be fair ...... but I know when you lose your doggy - a new puppy helps.

Thanks!
Jo

Hi Jo,

So you fell in love with a cockapoo in town ..easily done ... stunning dogs hey.

Not only do they look good, but they make great pets, I have one snuggled up next to me whilst I type.

When you are ready to do a puppy search, have a think about what mix of cockapoo you want and what type of breeder too... take your time and enjoy your search ...

You will love this breed ... cockapoos are addictive.... warning you will want two :)

Enjoy the forum, we are a happy group of cockapoo owners on here xxx

Two? So far I have on my list - Gorgeous George, Rupert, Crumble, Biscuit, the new pup with his tongue out (temporarily forgotten his name), oh I think there is a pattern with colour here......

hey welcome, best place to look for breeders is breedersonline Epupz, pets4home

do you have any idea what kid of cockapoo you will be looking for American/English(show or working) cocker cross Mini/Toy poodle. boy or girl do you have a colour in mind.

good plan waiting till your older dog has passed, not that anyone would rush her away. but iff she has isues with your younger dog then its best to to upset her.

good luck in your puppy serch.

Oh yes, that's the one! I was so tired last night, I couldn't remember, I'm like Maria in Sound of Music - "God bless whatshisname!"
I suspect I may well have a bit of an apricot fetish going on, and Flo should definitely have been on that list :D

Oakley! Sorry Oakley, how could I have forgotten that name!

Hi Kendal - your four doggies are the look I want - at the moment we're leaning towards the burnt sugar look (either two tone or plain). The size of yours is perfect too - don't want one too small. So that would be mini rather than toy I suspect. My favourite one of yours is the one of the left as you look at the photo - where they're all lying down. Beautiful! (well they all are lets face it).

Will just be a pet - not really into showing (but you never know) ! Definitely want a boy - as believe will get on better with Rolo (our wire haired fox terrier) who is a girl.

As to the mix - this is where I'm coming a bit unstuck. This is where I need to know exactly what I'm looking for - what's the difference between American and English.....

Thank you everybody for your comments and advice ! Much appreciated. xx

lol thats Delta she is one lc a kind at the moment. she is a red sable partie, shd didnt have a colour name when i get her i had to do some hunting on american breeders to find out her colour.

she is an american mini and has more of a "teddy bear" face compaired to my english girls. she is also a little shorter than my english girls.
A tongue out Oakley ... Oakleys tend to have lots of character .. its all in the name :)
Hi Jo... is that the first cockapoo you've seen? What colour was it?.... good luck with researching exactly what you're after, it'll be fun x
