You can buy those things to pull them out (!!!!) but you need to make sure you remove the head. There are videos on the net about rubbing them in a circular motion to make them dizzy and they apparently just come out on there own !! Good luck x

You need a special tool that you can buy from a pet shop or online. Someone has posted video and lots of information on here about a month ago. Do not try to remove it without knowing what you are doing as you need to remove the entire tick and it has parts buried in your dog. It isn't going to do much more harm to leave it until you can get to the vet, or petshop, tomorrow morning. I was totally freaked when I first found one but fortunately I had read the posts, seen the video and bought the tool - it was easy in the end. Is it alive? If you use Frontline it should be dead and it definately won't hurt to leave it there. If it is alive, when you remove it make sure you kill it! Good luck xx

Hi Paula
I have found the thread you need - if you go onto 'Your cockapoo's health' - one of the menus on the left hand side. The info on ticks is posted with a sticky so it stays there! I think it was from Strof51. The gadget is called an O'Tom tick twister which you buy through BADA. The video is on the O'Tom site and shows very clearly how to remove a tick. You can buy a similar remover from a pet shop. xx

Maisie had a tick a while ago very close to her eye, her coat was quite long so we didn't notice immediately. Took her to the vet who removed it expertly with the special tool, didn't charge. It was quite big and really gross!!

Best to get it removed by someone who knows exactly what they're doing.

Thanks all for your thoughts. I ended up using tweezers and I got the whole thing. Bella was amazing! I can't believe how she just sat ther and let me pull it off. I think she knew I was serious!

I have to say it was one of the nastiest things I've ever done!
