Hi everyone

Have been picking up handy tips from you all since becoming a member around a month ago.

We have just picked up our girls Sophie and Daisy from Jandaz in sunny Wales. First of all big thank you to Janice for the warm welcome we received when we arrived. We had a long drive from Roydon, Essex so decided to make a weekend of it, arriving on the Saturday staying in the Cambrian Hotel (recommended by Janice which was excellent) then picked the puppies up on Sunday.

When we arrived we were greeted by a myriad of dogs and then we spotted the twins. OMG it was love at first sight! After saying goodbye to their Mum and Dad the twins set off for their epic journey home (5 1\2 hours). They were as good as gold and didn't even whine.

On the first night we left them in their crate, covered it with a blanket and closed the curtains. We sleep at the top of the house but left the door open so we would hear them. After a little whine they settled down and didn't hear anything from them. In fact I woke them up at 7 a.m. for a wee.

They are being innoculated tomorrow but in the meantime we are getting up to speed with socialisation although I have to say that Janice has done a great job as they had already mixed with other dogs, cats and children. We took them round the park in our arms today which they seemed to enjoy.

Life is hectic and you have to have eyes in the back of your head but so far they have been so good. Last night too there was nothing in the crate which is amazing. I am sure there will be trials and tribulations ahead but BRING IT ON!

Cockapoos are simply the best!

Sue xx

P.S will post some pictures when I can work out how to do it!

just watch with siblings, they need to learn to live independently, you need to train them and walk them separately, get them as much one on one time with you as possible away from eachother, if not you are looking as extreme separation anxiety, over bonding with each other which means they will ignore you when out walk, or they will fight badly.

taking siblings from the same litter has got to be one of the worst decisions a new owner can make.

I'm sorry, but i have just seen it go wrong too many times.

Thanks for that. We have a trainer on board who is used to working with siblings. My husband and I intend to do a lot of work with them separately. Will keep you all posted but spoke to a person in our local pet shop who has siblings. They are 4 years old now and she has had no problems whatsoever and didn't do anything separately with them when they were young. Also on the other side of the coin have a friend who has just brought a puppy home to her 3 year old schnauzer and is having all sorts of problems with them so I suppose its swings and roundabouts. We are prepared to put the work in so hopefully that will pay off. Will keep you posted. xx

Wow twins! You've got your work cut out for you! Good luck :p And Enjoy!

I've had no experience of multiple dogs but Kendals advice sounds like sensible stuff to me. My sister-in-law (MillieDog here) has a cockapoo a few weeks older than Lolly and, as anyone who was at the Virginia Water meet up last week will verify, because they have known each other well since they were young they see each other as siblings which a dog trainer explained to us means they don't have the same manners with each other as they would with other dogs meaning we get rather lively behaviour from them when they are together!

Thanks Mick

It would be great to get our pups involved in the Olympics. Please let us know when this is going to take place. Can't wait to get them involved in this sort of stuff. Once their innoculations have been done we will start training in earnest!

Janice, Kendal gives that advice to everyone who mentions siblings....and it is from her personal experiences.....I have seen it go both ways.
im sorry what is her experience ??? hear say or constructive advise ? i felt with a new member a bit off putting and harsh she should be upbuilding not the oposite !

Kendal works with many many dogs...She isn't a breeder...but has lots of hands on experience through working in Kenels and grooming, and the many classes she attends and helps with...as you know she is very knowledgable. It's ok to not agree with her advice...I just wanted you to know that she wasn't trying to attack you or anything...just that it is the advice she always always gives to anyone when they talk about siblings.

just giving my opinion from different breeds who were sibling and things going wrong, to the point that they were ripping each other to sheds.

completely agree it is down to the owner hence why i said for them to do individual work with them, because all the situation i talk about are from people looking for help after they got the siblings and everything goes wrong. this is from being part of my local training school and working at a kennel where i see all kinds of dogs, it is shocking how many siblings are sold together and who may fight with each other. some aren't allowed to be kenneled together as they cant be trussed together, others cant have toys or chews as it will spark a fight.

i agree its down to pack order. i just want new owners to be awair of what can go wrong, in any breed or ***, from what i have seen several times, when siblings are sold together.

but i will never agree that any breeder who ever they are or however long they have been breeding should sell two siblings to the same home, i find it irresponsible.
by all means go back and get another pup in a couple of months but not at the same time and especially not from the same litter.

Thanks everyone for your comments, good and bad. We did go into this with our eyes open knowing there will be pitfalls. Also we know there are positives and that is what we are trying to achieve. Day 1 has gone better than we thought. We are taking them separately into another room and spending time with them on a 1 to 1. Once their innoculations are complete we will be walking them separately and then meeting up after approx 10 mins. Once they are happy to see us rather than each other then hopefully we are well on the way. We are also looking into getting them into separate puppy training classes.

I am sorry if I have stirred up a hornets nest! I know Mick and Jeanette have sibling puppies and as far as I know they are both still alive! We are not experts by any means but will do everything we can to have well balanced individual dogs who will love us and each other.

xx
p.s. they are gorgeous - pictures to follow

Sounds like you put lots of thought into your decision and have plans in place to ensure they grow up loving each other and you :D I can't wait to see the pics. There is something especially cute about seeing puppies curled up together!
