We have the 36" one and divided it almost in half when Rosie was small (with cardboard boxes, which she regularly ripped up and we replaced!). It just about fit in the boot of our large estate car, but certainly wouldn't have gone in one any smaller! So, I'd think about what you want to do with it.
If you want to do crate training, then smaller is better to begin with (but remember you can divide them), if you want to use it in the car, then measure your car and maybe look online for ones with sloping sides that fit in the boot more easily (we've now got a manufacturer's fitted cage in our new car). If you just want it as a place to put your dog to keep her secure every now and then, then bigger is fine, I guess, or you could buy a play pen?
