Bess has had watery eyes since we got her and I have been bathing them 3 times a day with cooled boiled water. There as been no improvement and I have now noticed a slight discharge in both eyes.

Just wondered if anyone as any advice on how I can treat it myself before I get the vet involved.

If the discharge is yellowy/green gunky then you can try optrex infected eye drops from the chemist (don't tell them it is for your dog). Gisgo got an infected eye and these made it mcg better after a couple of days. We did not have the watering beforehand though - just noticed the discharge one morning.

Hi there, ok I am not a vet but I would recommend you take Bess to the vets as the discharge could be a slight infection. Cockapoos do have what I call 'doggy sleep' in the corner of their eyes, but it tends to be a little bit of crusty sleep rather than wet.

You may like to make sure the wet area is wiped and cleaned as if it is left wet this may cause an infection.

I have heard of watery eyes being caused by a blocked tear duct, which can be easily resolved when the dog is neutered, as the vet will simply flush out the tear ducts when the dog is under.

I hope this helps and please dont worry, but worth a trip to vets :)

Teething can cause the gums and jaw to swell, and this swelling can temporarily cause a blocked tear duct, making the puppies eyes water; it's quite common, and in pale dogs will leave a pinkish stain. It usually clears up when the teeth are through. If there seems to be an infection, then maybe a word with the vet would help.

Hi as others have said I would definitely take her to the vets, a discharge is not good, sounds like an infection. When I got Dolly she had watery eyes, no discharge. The vet did a flush to see if there was any blockage, one drained, one didn't. He gave antibiotic eye drops and they cleared within a week. On the next visit he did another flush and they both drained fine. She hasn't had a problem since. :)
