Changing dry dog food

We've recently been having a few issues with Freddy and his food. He is currently on Wainwrights which in the beginning he absolutely loved (duck being his favourite). However, recently he has been going on a food strike which for some strange reason seems to be followed by a bout of diarrhoea to which I then feed him chicken and rice until his poos firm up again and then slowly reintroduce his dry food.

I may be overreacting on this because actually it is only the third time it has happened. The first time, there was lots of blood and mucas and I rushed him to the vets in a panic. They told me it is quite normal to see this when they have gastro entiritus because it irritates the bowel. They gave me lots of expensive injections, food etc. and he got better within a few days.

The second time was about two weeks ago, I decided to treat him myself (as above) and he improved. Until this weekend, when it started again.

Anyway, (sorry this is so long winded!) I want to change his food and after reading tons of forums on the internet (including obviously this one!) I have narrowed it down to two types - James Wellbeloved or Barking Heads.

Which do you think is the better out of the two? and would anyone recommend one over the other for a sensitive tummy?

[Goodness! I didn't mean this thread to be this long  ] !

Thank you to everyone who replied. I have taken Freddy to the vets today as his tummy was no better and he's been given an antibiotic injection and some paste to help settle his tum.

After much deliberating, and having contacted both companies (Barking Heads and James Wellbeloved) I have opted for Barking Heads. The lady that emailed me was very helpful and offered to send me out a free sample bag for Freddy to try. I'm going for the Tender Loving Care one. I have already been out and bought a small bag and I am very hopeful that he will like it, when I bought the bag in from the shops, his nose was stuck to it for a long time :D

Can't wait for his tummy to get back to normal so he can try his new food, got a few more days of chicken and rice before I can start introducing dry food again.

Will keep you posted.

Eric: I looked into Eden dog food, and you are right! It does look very good. If Barking Heads doesn't work for me, then I will certainly give them a try, but for now I wanted the convenience of being able to pop to the shops to replace Freddy's food. :)
