HI!

Basically a little hello here!
My boyfriend and I have been thinking about getting a dog for about a year, going back and forth between breeds and researching so many of them. He is very allergic to cats and mildly to dogs so we eventually came to the conclusion that a hypoallergenic dog was necessary (I have an older pomeranian and he is OK with him for a few days at a time so dog allergies weren't so bad thankfully!)

Having bought a puppy in the past and grown up with dogs, I knew it would be quite the journey for us to get a puppy as he never owned a dog prior to this and I was fairly set on adopting/rescuing. I was subscribed to all local pet rescue/adoption e-mails and would check regularly and nothing really matched our needs. One evening about a month ago now I randomly checked Kijiji and lo and behold there were 2 great choices - a Border Collie/Poodle mix puppy and an 11 month old Cockapoo! I promptly contacted both and basically the puppy's owner was a bit weird on the phone the next day so that got crossed off and we moved onto the Cockapoo and slowly but surely fell in love with a picture of a teddy bear looking thing that we couldn't stop talking about. His previous owner was alone living in an apt and went back to school therefore she couldn't take care of him anymore. She claimed he was fully house trained and fixed so the whole situation was SO appealing to us! She listed him for a low price and of course got so many responses which make us so stressed but liked our situation that my boyfriend works from home and we have a dog park in front of our place which allows a lot of attention and walks! She had promised the dog to someone else and kept us in mind as second choice which had us heartbroken. After carefully discussing it and having our hearts absolutely set on this little bundle - we decided to up her price and ensure she can ask anytime about him and even visits if she would like as I completely understand letting go of a puppy is beyond hard.
To our surprise and happiness, our tenacity totally worked and she told us we can have him! We went that night to pick him up from her mom's as she couldn't bear to see him leave. It honestly had happened so fast and at first, we had this energetic bundle that had been loved but somewhat ignored with so much pent up energy all of a sudden with us!

It was a bit hard at first as I had always gotten dogs at 8-10 weeks so an almost one year old felt a bit like a stranger at first but a week into it in all honesty it is quite possibly the best decision we have ever made! We decided to keep his name as it was absolutely adorable and fitting - Jackson is a part of our tiny family of 3 for now and he is quite possibly the best tempered happy dog I have ever encountered. He snuggles, he is extremely clean, he only plays and destroys his toys and doesn't touch anything of ours, he is extremely intelligent and alert and super social with other dogs and humans! He is basically the biggest bundle of joy ever!

We are working hard on making him not jump on people and tone down the play biting - I feel he is in his adolescent stage that is a bit rebellious and full of energy but he's just as comfortable curling up on the couch with us or taking a nap!

I just wanted to say a quick hello and a big thank you to this forum as I was perusing through a lot while his previous owner and I were texting regarding the dog prior to us picking him up! Everyone here is super nice and super helpful and I am looking forward to the numerous years ahead with this bundle of pure joy and happiness! We have researched food for him so much and are ensuring he has a balanced diet with the best possible things - as we try to eat very well and very healthy, it would be bad if we didn't make sure our puppy doesn't have the same treatment :)

I hope the picture works! This is how he basically sits on any and every couch! Does someone elses cockapoo sits this way??? Makes my heart MELT!!

Thank you we find him absolutely stunning as well!!! He has charmed every single person he met yet! He is 25 lbs although looks smaller in the picture I find hehehe!

My Pom remained with my parents as I moved out with my boyfriend a while ago - he is 13+ years old and very very fragile at this point so they have not met as Jackson is quite active and playful - he keeps up with all large dogs at the dog park so I am afraid a tiny senior pom will have a panic attack sadly!
My parents are making everything really comfortable and easy for him in his senior days as he has been with us his entire life :)

omg that is just ADORABLE!!!
I know Jackson will need a little trim soon but they are so similar in coloring!
I couldn't believe this dog since they sit in such a peculiar and amazing way that drives me nuts I have to attack him with cuddles each time :)

He plops down for belly scratches all the time - most dogs I have owned always hated going on their backs but he's such a floppy character :D

I had to upload more proud momma pictures! There's never enough on Google images in my opinion!!! I love looking at cockapoo pics so share share share!!

And here is my absolute favorite car family portrait - I do feel he's a bit carsick as he whines and pants around when we are on small streets but is ok when we are driving on the highway. When we turn on smaller streets he does not sound happy at all! I used to sit in the backseat with him but he would unbuckle my seat belt and pant around so much and he unbuckles everything overall!!! Any one else experience this with cockapoos and cars?

Well we need to see plenty of Jackson pics :D
Sounds like your pom is just chilling in his retirement home bless him, probably best not to traumatise him with a bouncy poo!! X
I simply had to add more pictures! And yes Pom is definitely happily bouncing around his home with calm and serenity! And occasional old pooch accidents but it is what it is he's old and just wants affection and food :)

That's adorable!!! It's reassuring to hear similar traits in cockapoos!!! AKC should just bow down and recognize them as a breed already :D they are honestly such well tempered dogs - I can't rave enough to my boyfriend how lucky we are to have found such a dog and such a perfect size and behavior. I have separation anxiety from him not the other way around hehehe!

Hooray another cockapoo for our Canadian cockapoo convention. We get to Montreal regularly, we are at Tremblant. We like to walk Rufus at the dog park at the top of Westmount. Congratulations on getting him, he is a cutie!:)
HI and thank you!!! That is absolutely lovely news to hear, we go to the Westmount park quite often as it is my favorite in the city!! We have seen quite a few goldendoodles, labradoodles and poodles but no cockapoo yet! Hoping we'll bump into you one day!!

I haven't been on the forum for a while so just saw your post- welcome! :) Jackson is just the most adorable bundle isn't he! His face, fur, character sound just gorgeous! Seymour (our cockapoo) is ok in the car but my friends dog is not and she tried the following, it turned out her dog was just anxious as wasn't exposed much to the car as a young pup:
Sit in the car with it parked and not moving with his comfort blanket on the back seat with him
Give him lots of praise for just sitting there nicely
Once he's got the hang of that, turn the engine on, again not moving the car
Repeat lots of praise for calm moments and ignore others
Eventually over a few weeks you'll be able to go on short drives then build it up.

Does he vomit in/after car journeys? This would more suggest car sickness than anxiety. In which case try not to feed him a couple of hours before. My previous elderly dog used to get car sick, we tried herbal treatments for it but they worked with limited effect-worth a try though!

Hi there! Thank you for all the tips! I am quite confused though with our pooch! We assumed he hadn't been really exposed to car rides due to his previous owner but the thing is that he LOVES going on adventures he will literally run towards the car and sit and wait patiently until the door is open and jumps in happily - it's literally just during small streets and lower speeds that he whimpers and plops his head next to my bfs head as he's driving from the backseat! We will try more praise and treats though and see if that helps his anxiety at times! thank you :)

Just to say first he is gorgeous and how lucky for you and him to have found each other. Dudley always cries in the car when we first set off, it's excitement as he thinks we may be on the way to our park - once we go passed that and head out of our village he settles down, quiet for hours on long journeys on main roads but he always starts again when we slow down in a built up area, just the anticipation of going somewhere fun to run, or to visit people I'm sure, we just ignore it.
Yes ok thank you for this! I honestly think the breed as a whole is just *SOOOO* happy to be alive and a part of things that he does get so eager and impatient when we go slower because on the highway he's usually totally fine just casually checking back and forth between windows! It's only annoying when we are 3+ in the car and I have to sit in the backseat with him and he just bolts back and forth and his little 25 lbs of weight feels like 250 lbs on me at times lol!

PS I love the name Dudley it is so beyond cute! And thank you, we are so blessed to have found him honestly he's been such a pleasure every day!

Jacksonpoo next time I'm in Montreal I'll give you a heads up and maybe we can try to time a walk at the park at the same time? Rufus loves cockapoos, he seems to know he is related to them. :)
This would be amazing for sure! My boyfriend would be ecstatic, we get so happy when he plays with goldendoodles and poodles in general we think he knows somehow hehehe! A cockapoo would be amazing for sure!!
